Intel 82801BA Bus master IDE controller

I recently installed a new driver from Intel

In the IDE ATA/ATAPI Controller
I had Intel 82801BA Bus Master IDE Controller
and since I installed the new driver this has changed to
Intel 82801BA Ultra ATA Controller

After running a test in PC Pitstop it was recommended that I
installed an updated driver for the Intel Chipset

Ever since I did this Windows XP has been behaving strangely

When I run Norton Internet Security Anti Virus it starts for a bit
and then the system shuts down and computer restarts
When I click to open My Documents folder the system restarts
When I open SEARCH (for files and folder) the system restarts
I cannot install new games
I cannot uninstall games
I cannot delete files or folders
In short anything I try to do the system shuts down and restart itself

In Device Manager I cannot roll back previous drivers a message says
no drivers has been saved for this file

Is there a way that I can recuperate the old driver that I had
so that it reads again Intel 82801 BA Bus Master IDE Controller
and maybe Windows will behave the way it should

Thank you for your co-operation

Hi Boaton,

There should be an uninstall for the Intel Chipset Update Utility listed in Add/Remove Programs (Control Panel).
Although, before you do, run chkdsk (Error Checking) on the drives.

Another alternative, you could go to Device Manager and uninstall the current listing. When you reboot and Windows asks for which drivers to install, go to "Let me select the drivers from a list", the previous drivers should be listed under Intel.

If you have a branded computer that has a restore disk rather than a full copy of Windows, you will need to update your drivers from the computer manufacturer's website.
