    Hi all,
I have struck a problem that I have not seen before. I was burning some audio CD’s in a hurry (copy’s) to take in the car, I don’t like taking originals away in the car. I was using some older low speed media and did not reset the speed on Nero had it on max.
It could not burn at that speed and the PC came to a halt it froze up completely.
Ctrl > Alt > Del. Would not work so I did a reboot upon the reboot my Mouse would not work again the Curser just sits there unmovable Windows XP Pro boots OK all programs work ok but no Mouse The mouse works on my other PS’s I also tested two other mice that work in other Computers but will not work in that one.
I just don’t know what else I could try to fix it I can’t work out if it is Hardware or Software, as there is nothing wrong with the mouse I tested it in two other PC’s it is a PS2 Mouse any ideas anyone

If you're running Windows XP, try this:
    1. Start the computer and then start tapping the [F8] key before Windows begins to start. The Windows Advanced Options menu should appear.

    2. Use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press [Enter].

    3. If a boot menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Microsoft Windows XP, and then press [Enter]. Windows XP will restore the computer to the most recent restore point.

I've seen this issue hundreds of times on systems I serviced. If a usb mouse, sometimes on a reboot after a crash or forced restart of Windows, the mouse does not work. Solution is to unplug the usb mouse & reconnect, sometimes into adjacent usb port, & if no joy, reboot again using the Start>Shutdown link.

This is drawn out, but it may help.

Using your keyboard to uninstall mouse driver.

Winkey + Break > Use Arrow keys to select Hardware tab > Use Tab key to select Device Manager, press Enter > Use Tab key to select list > Down Arrow key to select Mice and other pointing devices > Right Arrow key to expand Mice and other pointing devices. use down Arrow key to highlight PS/2 Compatible Mouse, press Enter > Use Tab key to move to tabs > Use Arrow key to select Driver tab > Use Tab key to select Uninstall, press Enter > Press Enter for OK. You will have to reboot. See if this will redetect your mouse.

Whiskeyman, I thank you for your detailed Instructions, I have printed them out and are safe in my Help Manual. Yes my Mouse is working again, Windows needed to load the drivers again. First time for everything I guess.
    thanks again

Good to hear. It has been awhile since I used the keyboard to repair a problem. I was used to doing it with Win9X but not XP.
