It started with my CPU constantly rebooting every 20 - 30 minutes. I tried to do a System Recovery and now all the computer will do is boot to a screen with the following display and stop:

    \windows\system\vgaoem.fon\system32\drivers\ntfs.sys

What can I do to get my computer running again?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Is this the whole message - the syntax is not correct for a start. It looks like you have a problem with two missing or corrupted files ....

    vgaoem.fon
    ntfs.sys

Does the screen message say missing or corrupted?

I think you are looking at a Repair of XP here.

More info on PC Problems . . .

You are right about the "missing or corrupt file" PeteC, and thanks for your reply.

This is not my PC, it belongs to a lady that I work with. She brought it in and I now have it set up. The Missing or Corrupt file is:

    System32\Drivers\Ntfs.sys

The PC will not enter System Restore. It just goes back to the above message.

If you try to do System Recovery you get this:

    WINDOWS\system32\drivers\ntfs.sys couldn't be opened

I copied the ntfs.sys file from a working PC onto a floppy and then copied it over the existing ntfs.sys "corrupted" file on the problematic PC. I am now running System Recovery and it is at 49% with no problems so far (well past the point of where the "couldn't be opened" message appeared before).

However, when I first tried to boot it up, a new message appeared (before I began the System Recovery process) which (like an idiot) I did not write down. It said something about the dll's. If the problem recurs I will post it, but I am hopeful that the System Recovery will work this time - 71% and still going <fingers crossed>.
