I am working on a friend's Laptop and cannot seem to solve this problem. After installing Nero his DVD/CD ROM is no longer visible in the Explorer Window. Also In the device manager he gets the following error:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I have uninstalled Nero from his computer hoping to solve the problem there, however it did not. I have tried to rollback the driver, I have tried to update the driver and I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the driver. I have also tried to repair the registry with RegScrubXP. None of the above have worked.

My friends Laptop is an HP Pavilion dv4000 with WinXP SP2 with an Intel Celeron M processor 1.40 GHz, 504MB of RAM.

Thank you in advance for the assistance.

    Hello mosher,

Have you tried uninstalling/re installing the ROM in DM?

Have you tried System Restore to restore to a point prior to Nero's install/

http://forums.afterdawn.com/forum_view.cfm/156 is the "unofficial" Nero forums.

    Regards - Charles

I have tried System Restore and that did not work. I have not tried your first suggestion - I will do that and post my results.

Well I tried from Safe Mode and it still cannot detect the DVD/CDROM ...are there any further suggestions?

    edit:

After doing some further searching I found an article in the Windows Knowledge Base that addressed the issue. For my particular problem the regedit option was the solution.
