prob. emachine t4510

working on this t4510 emachine that started out with a bad psu or so says the client. psu is definitely bad according to my psu tester. have a new psu that matches the original psu and my tester reflects its working properly.

problem - when i first plug the power cord in cpu fan spin up as does the psu for just a second then stops. if i switch to another power cord again the fan spins for a sec then stops. have disconnected every thing from machine including removing memory module. have receded every thing have removed the push button control and manually pushing the switch in still no consistant power. this is a new psu and again it does test out just fine. hocked up another psu with the same power connector and p4 connector and i get the same results. fans spin for a sec. then stop. thought maybe the switch but dont think so now.

looking for possibilities. i think the board has just died but not sure. being client said they went away on a trip and when they came back and turned machine on it wouldnt boot. am thinking that they took a big hit while they were gone which blew the psu and board.

thoughts appreciated.

We recently had a power surge in our office. A PC that was turned OFF blew the psu which in turn took out the mobo and the hard drive.

A twin sister to this machine blew it's power supply. IT too took out the mobo.

thats definitely what its looking like. cant even get enough consistant power to use my post card. nothing. like i said even tried a different psu with same results. old psu was definitely dead but the new one just aint firing up the system. they must have taken a big hit of some sort.

thanks.

Hi GGH,
You could try resetting the CMOS (or take the battery out for say, 1/2 an hour), but I don't hold much hope for it.

Hope the CPU is still intact.

mmmm....I always wonder (and check) if there may be a special "pin-out" for the power connections to the motherboard. If the wiring colours match the original then it should be "standard" pin-out.

Matt

yep, that was one of the first things i did. didnt do any good. doesnt even get to a point where i get beep codes. fans spin for a second then every thing stops. looked at emachines site for a new board but this particular one wasnt part of their parts displayed so will call them this morning to see what the cost is just in case client wants to go that route over a new system. this machine is a p4/2.53ghz so not really that old.
