Does anyone know if there is a website that has a generic diagram of the components of a computer, with the different parts clearly labeled? I am about to add a DVD burner and a new hard drive and I wish I could see something that would say: here's where the removable drive is and these are the cables, and then over here is the hard drive and the cables run from.... blah, blah, blah....

Gateway has something like this on their web site but it is poorly done and not much help to me. I have done small things like add RAM and a NIC card but when I'm facing those cables I get real scared.

By the way, Hi all. I'm new here. Just registered today. Lookin real good! :)

Thanks Pete. That looks pretty good. I wish the pictures weren't so darn small. I wish one of you brainy guys would draw a diagram all in one screen. Then you could number the components and maybe have a link to a larger view of the the individual part. If I could see it all laid out like the instruction sheet you get for the dreaded "some assembly required" projects I would dare to do anything. :D That would be so great. I would pay for that! :)

    Hi Paula,
When you have the drives and the computer open, look closely at the connections/connectors, you will see they are made so that "brainy guys" cannot put them in the wrong way and as such, foolproof or what we might call "brainy-guy proof" :D

Go to the website of the drive manufacturers, they generally have tutorials on installation and also User Guides to download that have the diagrams you are looking for. Search for the model number of the drive and you should find details and information about that particular drive.

I'll do that, thanks. Just wishful thinking. ;)
