game port joystick

Hi everyone,
I am having a problem with joysticks that plug into the game port in the back of the computer. I have tried 2 totally diffferent model of joysticks in both my XP computers and the computer didn't recognise the joystick at all.
Yet, on my other - windows98 - computer, I can use it.
Is there anyway to get them to work?

Sounds like there are no drivers installed. "Gameport Joystick" drivers come with the Audio drivers. Windows has probably installed what it thinks are the best drivers for your Audio (and not installed the Gameport or installed the wrong ones for the Gameport).

You will need to find the right drivers for your Audio. If it is an add-in card you will need to know the model number (Everest in my signature may help, but if Windows has installed the wrong drivers that may confuse Everest, you may need to look at the number printed on the card in case you do not have the User Guide that came with it(...and if you happen to have the drivers CD, see if there are any drivers on it for WinXP). Put the model number and "drivers" into a Google search, that will probably find a few, the manufacturers drivers would be the best (and latest). If you have "onboard" Audio (the audio chip is on the motherboard) the best drivers would be found at the motherboard manufacturers website.

You should be able to just run the drivers setup executable. When you restart, Windows should detect "new hardware" and install it, including the Gameport. If not, try removing anything related to Audio/Gameport in Device Manager and reboot.
