Does anybody out there know if XP pro has a monitoring facility for temps of units and fan speeds. My dim. 8300 seems hot and the cpu fan is sometimes like a chopper on take off.

What sort of readings shoud I expect and does anybody know in the event of xp not having the facility, of any free downloads to show them??

There's nothing that I know of native to XP that will do what you want. However MBM will do what you want. Freeware.

Not sure if it applies to your Dell MB. But many M/Boards have the option in BIOS to look at fan speed and CPU temp. Sometimes this function is not enabled by default, but that is easily fixed if available. A software monitor as Zander suggests is more convenient, but the BIOS option is handy if you suspect a heat or fan problem.

Another option, depending on whether your M/B supports it, is to download Everest and go to the Sensor area under the Computer icon.
