When i depress the letter c, nothing happens, i am able to do it by depressing the caps lock at the same time as the arrow underneath caps, i have tried two different keyboards but it is still the same problem.

After having the same result with different keyboards, I suspect the keyboard BIOS. Scan for virii just to be sure.

    Sorry

There isn't much to go wrong with a keyboard, & you did try a new one with same prob, rite! Is this a comon nothing fancy KBoard? No internet addons, etc? I had a 112 key Focus that had it's on battery to allow hot keys, kinda like a on board bios. Hated the thing. Have you looked close at the 'Jack' on back of puter? Anything such as a broken pin stuck in there will give wierd probs. If no then maybe inside where attaches to mainboard? ah.............anyone else out there??

Maybe wrong KeyBoard selected in the BIOS and/or device Manager.

Have you tried booting into safe Mode and removing the Keyboard from the device manager and then shutting the machine down ( power off ) wait 30 second snad then re-start and let Windows re-install the Keyboard ?

Nope, but close. Wear a condom. :p
Actually just keep hitting the F8 key as the machine is booting. Then at the prompt, choose "safe mode ".

danzante , have ya tried the bios yet? When ya hear the first beep press the delete key, careful in here tho don't change anything, just see if the keyboard has USB "enabled" or disabled. Prolly in advanced chipset features menu.

HHMMMMMMMMMM !!! Back to the proverbal drawing board.

What type of keyboard do you have ?

Is it a USB, Standard plug or PS2 plug.

I am thinking if it is a USB, scrap it. USB it not always what it is supposed to be.

I have not seen any info as to what OS you are using. IF it happens to be Win95b and you are using USB I would deffinetly try another type. 95b USB leaves a little to be desired.

If it is a PS2 I hope you have not been removing and replacing it with the power on. PS2 ports can be damamged that way.

As to keyboard problems I am freah out of Ideas as I have not had them. Other than the message " Keyboard Failure. Press any key to continue " And after I stopped laughing long enough to shut down and plug it in all was well.

As a WAG this * MIGHT * be caused by some program running in the background that is making KEY asignments.

....the problem lies when i log on to the net.

That was a suspicion I had but did not really ask the question quite right.

I would also say that we have illiminated a hardware problem.

It appears as though it does have something to do with the Internet connection or the browser you are using.

I did have strange happenings when using Win98SE and a certain version of IE5. everythings has been fine since I wnet back to the Original Win98 regardless of what version of IE. I am using IE6 now and no problems at all.

Are you using software from your ISP to set up your connections ? When I used same it caused all kinds of problems.

Do you have Notepad already laoded or are you starting Notepad in the above.

It sure reads as if something has been asigned a Shortcut Key.

Something like Alt or Control+C = Minimize the open Windows.

I am betting it may be in Notepad.
