I have a W10 OS and my Primary HD is working fine. I have a small 60GB HD also installed which I store my dirvers and non-cd programs on. I have installed a new 1TB HDD which I want to install W7 OS on. The new HD is not yet partitioned. In Disk Management, it is showing in Disk 1 slot but then again so is the smaller 60GB disk. What would be a simple way, if one, to complete my mission? The end result will be 2 OS; one with W10 the other with W7.

Disconnect your other HDD's while you set up your W7 OS. You get the chance to Partition it while installing don't you? Neil.

Thanks but as to my other question. My primary W10 (C) in Disk Magt. is located on Drive 0
The new HD W7 is located on Drive 1 (A); as is the 3rd HD (B). One calling itself Recovery the other Backup. Shouldn't they be separated?

Along with this DM screenshot, I would like to update on my dual OS progress. I disconnected all but the new HD and tried to install W7. First, I attempted to do it with a W7 32-bit. It loaded and started Windows but then just ended up with what looked like a blue screen with a line in the middle moving a mile a minute. The same happened when I tried it with a W7 64bit disk. All have active Windows keys. Lastly, I attempted to load my old WXP disk. It loaded all the way up to the install screen but my keyboard was disabled and I couldn't enter any further instructions.

Well haven't heard anything back after request from Staff but I still would like to know one thing maybe someone else can answer. I use a Asus FI MB which has 6 STAT connectors on a block and 1 SATA connector on MB. Is the OS affected in any manner in how the 3 HDs and 2 CD/ROM are data connected? Also, how can one HD which says it is empty and has been formatted affect the OS? The OS will not work unless this standalone HD is physically connected.

I know it may seem silly to suggest but when you install the W7 to your new HDD - do you also install your motherboard drivers? Neil.

Of course. Someone tell me the answer to this question. How can a HD show up in Disk Manager when it doesn't show up in Device Manager nor is it connected?

Per your screenshot Disk 1 is partitioned.

As for the 60GB disk, the OS won't boot IF during the install the 60GB disk was connected AND the OS put boot files on it.

Sata ports are numbered 0-x. Connect your disks in order of use for easier t-shooting.

Also, disable indexing on non OS disks.

Not sure about this, but I thought drive letters A & B were reserved and should not be used.

I keep thinking my Bios is fouled up. In any case, the NEW 1tb HD that shows up in front of the 60GB HD in Disk 1 is not even connected. It still show up in Disk Manager but not in Device Manager. I just can't understand how that 60gb is connected to my OS?

Since my OS HD is only 1TB, I don't see the Asus FAQ's useful. In any case, my W7 use to run faster prior to me upgrading to W10 and then reverting back.

Your Manual should give you info on clearing CMOS which may be a starting point. Neil.

As it turned out, one of my HDs showed signs of failing (bad sectors) plus I found that I was calling one drive my primary when if fact it was another drive. In the end, I put W7 on 1 HD and W10 on the other and created a boot menu with BCD. Works great.
