Hi I need help with an external Hard drive behaving strange.

The hard drive is a Seagate Goflex 1TB hard drive.

I recently took it round my nephews to install some software but when i got home i started experiencing issues.

For e.g. sometimes it shows up as an extra drive in MY PC and i can open it but once I start browsing folders it crashes file explorer, then after a while it just disappears. i have had an occasion where the screens gone blank and i've needed to restart computer, but then its had trouble booting up unless i unplug the hard drive.

on disk spin up everything sounds fine, there are clicks at the start but they sound like the normal kind, and the fact i can occasionally open it and see folders this makes me think its not a hard ware issue but a software issue.

I have used various recovery software including one from seagate but they seem to crash when they start accessing it. I'm at a loss as to what todo next :(.

I have also used a USB to SATA adapter but the drive wont even show when using it.

I also tryed plugging it straight into my mother board but i don't think i set it up properly, I've heard i need to set some settings in my bios. Does anybody have instructions for this?

Thanks for any help you can give me

    Chris

    Please some one help me.

None of my external hdd have any clicking sounds when starting up. Could you please enter your System Specifications. How to Add System Specifications to Your Profile Are you using the data cable that was supplied with Hard Drive? Did You try installing the software? Was the Hard Drive working before you brought it to your nephew's place.
