I got a new laptop at http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/productID.316333400?VID=316333600&srccode=cii_17588969&cpncode=44-57006346-2&WT.mc_id=US_datafeed_Google It doesn't have a VGA port But it has usb ports.

I am not sure whether a monitor with usb ports can be used for the connection between the laptop and the monitor.

I think the usb ports on the monitor are for the usb flash drives only. Would you please verify it?

    zh....

You can use the USB ports on the monitor as an extension for any USB device.

However, I'm not sure you could link up with your laptop. You would need a male to male USB adapter cable. I'm sure some of the sages on this board can shed more light on this. If you want to use your desktop monitor with the laptop, the best thing to do would be to get a VGA adapter.

You can get a USB 3.0 VGA adapter for a monitor at any electronics site http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IU1V9CO/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller=&gclid=Cj0KEQjw4qqrBRDE2K_z7Pbvjo8BEiQA39AImewlzGXVSHRd7UmQi17yA66JKBsTfxbm2OIlYtEwxAQaAkTA8P8HAQ and I would recommend that you get USB3.0 vs 2.0. I think all the USB ports on your laptop are 3.0.

If you ever want to use the laptop for presentations linking up to overhead projectors, you might want to consider an HDMI to VGA adapter - I think your unit has HDMI. I use this particular one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812699001 for my computer club's remote presentations via overhead projector. It incorporates audio through the adapter which is powered via a USB port. I have used it a number of times for remote presentations and it has operated without problem.

You'll need to use the Mini DisplayPort to connect an external monitor. You can get an Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter if needed.
