I have been getting more and more disappointed with the toner I buy online. I realize that the price has been getting lower, now it is about 10 bucks a cartridge (HP wants 70 dollars for an OEM cartridge), so I guess you get what you pay for. The problem is, the online stores on amazon that I buy from have a very high percentage of 4/5 star reviews, so I can't tell if they'll send me junk or not just by reading the reviews.

Where do you folks get your toner from (if you're happy with the ink you get)?

I buy OEM. I know some folks have no problems but I have seen too many problems with aftermarket ink and toner. Ink is pretty high-tech stuff - not just in the chemical formulation, but in the molecular size of the particles. That matters in the way the ink is sprayed through the jet nozzles as the dots are extremely small - typically between 50 and 60 microns in diameter, considerably smaller than human hair! And the different makers use different formulas, and several different formulas across their brand.

With OEM ink, the ink inside their cartridges will be consistent cartridge after cartridge after cartridge. But with aftermarket ink, you never know - even with the same brand of aftermarket ink as it is not uncommon for them to change their suppliers. And consistency is especially in question if you buy 3rd party brands from different suppliers each time - that is, if you buy from Stables this month, OfficeDepot next, and Amazon (and who knows where they buy from?) after that.

I have had aftermarket ink cartridges leak - never OEM. I have seen where print quality was lousy and it immediately cleared when OEM ink was used. And of course, many printing devices do not properly report ink status with 3rd party and/or refilled cartridges.

The big warehouse stores (Costco, Sams) frequently have $20 off sales, or 2 for 1 sales on OEM cartridges. So I wait for them then stock up.

Note too I try to conserve my ink by printing in lower quality for copies that are just going into my own file cabinet. And if I don't need color, I print in grayscale.

If I do decide to go OEM, that's a handy link. A bit less than the 70 HP is asking for on their own store. But even at the Amazon price, I could buy 4 third party toner cartridges. Ordinarily I'd probably just bite the bullet and buy OEM, but I do print a lot, and the difference in price would be a lot over time.

I'm hoping that someone here has a good place that sells toner for my printer (that is not OEM).

HP ink is way too much. They should give you the printer so they could sell ink....

Agreed. Didn't we used to say that the shaving razor manufacturers sold the shaver cheap, to sell the blades? Its the same way with ink (at least OEM ink).

I'm not happy about the fact that I have to pay for return shipping, but the price is reasonable. I'm willing to pay more for a good 1600 page return on a toner.

Thanks for the recommendation. I decided to give them a shot. 10 percent off plus free shipping, so I paid 19.43 for everything.

If they give me a quality toner, I'll buy a muti-pack next time. Its more than I've been paying lately, but if it will last 1600 or more pages, it will be well worth it.

My first toner from SuperMediaStore has just been used up. It used up 1440 pages, which is not quite up to the 1600 that is advertised, but it is close enough. It sure is a lot more than I was getting before, from the real cheapo sellers.

I bought a two-pack from them. I'll post back here and say how many pages I'm getting from them.

For those of you who like buying through Amazon, you can get the Linkyo ink here: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n...bbn=493964&ie=UTF8&qid=1429587859&rnid=493964

My most recent toner from SuperMediaStore (Linkyo) printed just over 1800 pages. I'm going to order a 2 or 3 pack tomorrow.

Thanks a lot for recommending them to me, Bmoore.

We have a mom & pop refill store on hand to refill inkjet cartridges (and toner) with. However, I only refill a cartridge one time and then I replace it.

I switched from an HP Photosmart C510A to an Epson Work Force WF-3640 ten times better than the HP. The ink doesn't cost as much and I just ordered ink from Epson and was surprised with a free 2 day shipping promotion and no tax.

Would that have any affect on printers that estimate ink levels? I know you're saving ink, but I suppose it would be guessing game as to when it's time to change the cartridges unless one could actually see through the ink tank?
