I have an HD which has been disconnected and removed from computer for sometime. I required a piece of software saved on this HD, however reconnected HD, it is no longer recognized at power up. HD has been checked on another computer, and works OK.Any suggestions on this matter.

Sorry, what doc you mean burning to CD/DVD? Hard Drive is a Seagate 2TB.
Normally as you know, Windows should find HD at power up of computer, and allocate a drive letter. HD power up LED is illuminated, showing power is on.

Hi BobbyScot, Is this a new Thread?
I don't think you will be able to take Software from 1 HDD and install to another HDD.
You may be able to 'Clone' the specific Data but I think you have to install the Software from CD/DVD/Flash drive to your new HDD.
You should be able to "see" your HDD if you have it connected to the comp and it should 'slave' (be readable).
I've 'slaved' HDD's before that were used with W98 and opened on WXP comp. SATA drives shouldn't have any problems providing your main OS is on the 1st SATA connector. Neil.

In your post #5 you wrote that you tried to access a software program installed on a HDD that is no longer recognized on one PC. Then you also posted the same HDD was recognized on a another PC. The computer that the HDD was not recognized on, the same computer you were having all the problems with a few weeks ago.

Rather getting confused, as I requested help in solving as to why connecting an unused HD is no longer recognised by Windows "automatic recognising" and "allocation of a letter" for the HD in question.
The first mentioned HD was brand new and was finally resolved, now working.
The second mentioned and current help required, is an HD disconnected and stored away but now required, refusing to be "recognised/allocated a letter ". I think perhaps letter previously allocated to this said HD, letter is now used by one of the other installed hard drives. This drive, shows the power is switched on and has been checked on another computer and found working satisfactory. All that I ask is, any procedure to solve this error?

lj50, HD was given to another person to try on his computer, it was found working ok. Yes HD in question was returned to me and this HD reconnected to my computer. Result, this HD is not recognised by my computer.
I connected the same HD, to enable me to access files saved before it was disconnected from the computer several weeks ago. It was not envisaged to transfer saved software from this HD to CD or DVD. I am trying to find a procedure to enable this HD to be recognised by my computer. If successful it will then enable me to access all files saved on this HD.

    A couple of points ...

When attached to the other computer was the same USB lead used as that which you used on your computer? If not try another lead.

Have you tried other USB ports on the computer and, if using a hub, tried connecting it directly to your computer?

Go into device manager and open disk drives. Locate the HD in question if it's there and uninstall it. Reboot and reconnect. Hopefully the drivers and hardware will be reactivated.

Device Manager shows 4 - "Disk Drive" and 4 - named drives. However the disk in question is a Seagate, and named drives are not one shown as Seagate. Certainly the total drives is eight in number, exactly the number connected at present, that includes the Seagate. Seagate hard drives for some reason have always given me trouble to install in the past. Apparently Seagate model install first time, but disconnecting and reconnecting is a fault of my computer.

MMullen2, thanks for suggestion. As a check, removed all HDs with the exception of the HD in question from computer. Only one of the four disks displayed was now showing, as it turned out it was the HD in question.
I connected to Disk Management>this showed a HD with no allocated letter>right click>selected a letter not already in use>click on selected letter>OK>restart computer. HD now showing as active and working.
