I recently bought an HDMI cable for my TV but can't connect it to my PC because there is no HDMI port on it. I've been reading that there are HDMI to USB 2 converters as well as HDMI to VGA converters. I want to play MP4s on the TV, which of these converters is better (do they both work to do what I need)?

I was going to suggest adding a graphics card to your machine, but the power supply is rated at only 220 watts, so that will limit your choices somewhat unless you can upgrade the power supply.

Check out the link (and video) below for more connectivity options...

Are these the specs of your model? Neil.

We need to know the input capability of your TV. Most also accept VGA and separate audio from computers. Some support DVI and separate audio.

And are we talking about the computer in your My System specs?

No those aren't the specs for my computer, there is no HDMI port, and I only have 3 USB 2 ports.

    ---

The TV has no VGA or DVI input, just standard RCA video/audio. Only choice was the HDMI input which it does have.

Yes the specs are what you see in 'My System'. After looking around more I'm pretty sure a VGA adapter would not suffice, but from the link "retiredlearner" mentioned above, a "Radeon HD 6450" graphics card would fit into the 'PCI-Express x16 slot'. What I'm looking at now is if that type of card has an HDMI input on it. If so then that would be my best bet. If not, then not an option. They seem to go for about $45.

    On a side note:
I had looked at the 'TOTHHMVGA6F1 VGA to HDMI Cable M/M' and using a 'PTC Premium GOLD Series HDMI Female/Female Coupler' to attach it to the HDMI male cable, but somehow I don't think that would work, seems to be too much patching. Too bad, both cable/coupler would come out to about $10 ;-p

Hmm I just saw this at Future Shop ASUS Radeon HD 6450 1GB GDDR3 PCI-E Video Card and it has an HDMI input. Looks like that's what I'll pursue, unless I can find a better price. Also looks to have a DVI input too (along with standard VGA).
