Hi I bought a Dell Inspiron 620 I-5 with 8GB of Ram, 1TB HDx7,200 RPM with some 3.0 USB's & 4 2.0 USB's after a week I traded it in even for this HP p-7 1235A-8 at micro center with all the same specs. Only diff one is a AMD-8 & 1 is a I-5 Intel. Both were $499.00 towers only. Which would u choose? please help because I'm down to last 2 days to swap again. I do like the HP though. My dell was herky-jerky (corrupted) OS i think.
    Thanks for any help.
    ~Paul
    PS. Hope in correct forum

I prefer Intel too - but make no mistake, AMD makes excellent, extremely reliable, competitive CPUs too. And therefore, if you really want the most bang for the buck, you should go only on cost and not brand name. There are not many industries all the players make excellent products. So that is great for consumers.

Of course humans are not generally that rational. We are brand biased and brand loyal - to a fault. Fortunately, you really can't go wrong picking either.

It is important to remember that the CPU consumes but one part of the budget, and makes up just one component of the system. Once past the CPU, the motherboards (except chipsets and CPU sockets, of course), graphics, RAM, drives, cases, PSUs, monitors, and all the software are the same - exactly the same. While I prefer Intels, the amount of RAM and investment in a good graphics solution is really what matters (besides of course, a quality PSU from a reliable maker).

If sure that is the only difference, then I would go for the Intel. But with the Intel retailing for almost $80 more than the AMD, I would wonder if that really is the only difference between those systems - especially in the graphics area.

What an excellent explanation of the differences between AMD & Intel. Thank u so very, very much BILL. Its because of ppl like u that makes this site so much better than all the other forums I enjoy & visit. I was able to buy the Dell I 620 Intel Core i5-2320 for $499.00 Same price as the HP p7-1235 AMD-8.
    Thanks again BILL,
    ~Paul
