Resolved Computer can't "see" SDHC memory card

    I have a Viewsonic photoframe and have been trying to get a memory card to carry all my portrait-oriented photos so I can set the frame on edge to get the right orientation.

    I bought a SanDisk 4GB SDHC card. My computer has a card slot that can accept SD, MMC, SM, MS and MS-PRO. It has no problem reading an XD card when it's in an XD-SM adapter. For some reason, though, it can't figure out the SDHC card. After several minutes with the green light on the reader, the computer seizes up and I have to re-boot. It won't even shut down normally. I have to turn the power off.

    DW's Netbook can see the SDHC card without a problem. Is there enough difference between the older SD card and the SDHC version that would get my machine's knickers in a twist? Do I need an SDHC to SM adapter, or should I just go buy another type of card? The SDHC was only $8. I can use it for other things, maybe.

    Indeed there is :) SD was the original SD card which had limited capacity and speed; with the development of devices e.g modern digital cameras, higher speeds and capacity were required. SDHC is the later version with a minimum capacity of 4 GB and these are not compatible with devices that accepted the original SD cards.

    It sounds like your computer has an SD card reader whereas the netbook has a SDHC reader - SD cards can be read in a SDHC reader, BTW.

    Seems to me that your simplest solution is to transfer the files to the SDHC card via the netbook.

    Alternatively buy a plug in SDHC card reader for your computer. If you are looking for an SD type card of 4 GB or greater capacity you will not find one :)

    Pete, I just looked in and your comment about larger than 4GB SD card made me look at our online Trademe site:
    Kingston 16GB Class 10 SDHC Card G2

    Genuine Kingston Product in sealed package

    APACER SD line Class 10 SD Card 16GB
    SDHC 16GB class 10 Card New!

    This is available for Digital camera use. Are we talking the same thing? Neil.

    Sorry, Pete. For some reason, my first setting of the "Resolved" flag didn't take. It did the second trime.
