I have a ST380011A ATA harddrive. I was thinking of using drivemate or this here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812119152 in getting the data from the hard drive. Both say they are for IDE/SATA drives. Is IDE another definition for ATA?

Hi merilinone. Yes, IDE is another word for PATA drives. That adapter from newegg should work fine for any harddrive.
