[Monitor unexpectedly goes to sleep after a few minutes]

hi i was wondering what the problem is with my house computer. it will load and let me log in but then after a few minutes it all stops and i get a flickering sign on monitor saying monitor going to sleep.
i have been able to do a couple of virus checks and they are bringing up no viruses i was thinking it might be the monitor hardware but not sure any help on this will be greatfully received.

Hi bracklapiper. Try this, boot up the computer and then after you see the manufacturer logo disappear, tap the F8 key on the keyboard (before Windows starts loading) to bring up the advanced boot options menu. From the menu select Enable VGA Mode with the arrow keys and then hit enter.

Your computer will boot into Low Resolution Mode. After you log in see if you experience the same behavior with the monitor shutting off.

Since the computer is running well in VGA mode, then the issue with your monitor shutting off sounds like a driver problem.

I would suggest that you update your video driver by installing a new version from here, Download Intel GMA 950 Windows XP 32bit Graphics Drivers.

After the driver installs, reboot the computer into normal mode and see if the monitor shuts off.
