Yahoo Mail auto Complete has stopped working

I have Yahoo Mail Plus. A couple of weeks ago, when composing outgoing email, the auto complete for addresses stopped working. I have been round and round with Yahoo and they tell me it is something on my computer that is stopping it and that it is my problem not theirs.

I have tried everything they said and cannot get the auto complete to work. Yahoo support had me disable all add-ons in Firefox, shut down my firewall and anti virus programs etc. Nothing works. I have tried it also with Yahoo mail (not the Plus version) in IE 6, Opera latest versions, Firefox and even the old version of Netscape I have.

Anyone have any suggestion as to what might be causing the problem. It used to work but I cannot pinpoint what I did when it stopped working.

Thanks

It would be a setting in the browser you are using to access Yahoo.

Arie, If it is, I cant find it.
Happens in Internet explorer 6, Firefox latest versions , Opera and even an old netscape version. That is why I believe it has to be something on the PC instead of the browser.

Other then using updated latest version of firefox, I have not changed any of the browser settings. Netscape and IE I don't update (run into more problems with IE when I do and rarely use and of course Netscape is obsolete. Opera is usually latest version and there I don't change the settings either from version to version.

Any other ideas? Thanks

AutoComplete is a browser function. I have no knowledge of Yahoo mail, I am assuming it is just a web page you open like hotmail right?

No, in this case this is a function of Yahoo mail. The auto complete you are referring to in the browser works fine.

This is a function in Yahoo mail. I choose compose and in the To: part when I began to type in a name of someone in my Yahoo contacts, then it used to offer some choices from my address book. If I were to start typing Smith, it would start choosing all the smiths that are in my Yahoo contacts. Then I would simply hilite the one I want and it would put their email in that to space.
This automatic choice is what is no longer being given to me. I can still find the addresses in the address book by clicking on the To but simply entering letters in the address filed is what no longer works.

I still think it a yahoo problem but they said no way and nothing more I can do with them even tho I have a paying subscription. Used to work in paying or non paying versions. It is just a pain to do this way when I was so used to the other.

I go to myyahoo.com web page, Login, then choose Yahoo mail, then compose. It brings up a window just like any other email program with the from to etc fields etc.

Arie, Thanks anyway.

I just discovered that the problems posted in this thread, as well as several other problems I had, were due to Zone Alarm Pro. Turns out that they all disappeared once I installed an older version that I had saved (vers
8.0.298.000) from last March, 2009. All my problems then disappeared.

These problems apparently began once I did an update to the above mentioned version of Zone Alarm Pro. I could never figure out why.

Have used Zone Alarm for several years but will not be using it any
longer. Now I know why Arie not like the product.

I now give thumbs down to Zone Alarm.

I've marked this thread as 'Resolved'.

New Functionality: Marking a thread as 'Resolved'

We have added new functionality to the forum that allows you to mark your threads as 'Resolved'.

It is considered courteous to post a reply if you have been able to resolve your problem, or received an answer to your question. If you were given multiple suggestions/solutions, it is also helpful if you would list the solution that worked for you.

Once you have posted those details, when still looking at your thread, near the top of your thread you'll see Thread Tools. Click the down arrow to expand the drop down menu, at the bottom of it you'll see Mark this thread as solved. Click on it to mark your thread as solved.

If later you find that the problem has returned, and you had previously marked your thread as solved, follow the steps above. Instead 'Mark this thread as solved' you will see that in this case Mark this thread as unsolved is listed.

Please read the User Guide for more information.
