Annoying problem with Adobe Acrobat 8

This isn't a show stopper, but it's annoying. A search on the topic didn't find anything.

When I go to print from Adobe Acrobat, the print screen comes up, but the "Print" button is inactive, no matter how long I wait for it.

If I call up Task manager, the print button immediately goes active.

Any ideas what's causing this?

I have XP/SP3 and a Lexmark X5650 printer running off the USB port. The problem also was present with Adobe Acrobat 7.

You are about a year behind on updating Adobe. Security venerabilities in the older version.
http://get.adobe.com/reader/ Don't forget to uncheck the Google toolbar if you don't want it.

My System

Are you talking about Adobe Acrobat, or Adobe Acrobat Reader?

It's the whole meal deal - Adobe Acrobat 8, not just the reader.

MrBill:

I just got an update from Adobe yesterday, to version 8.1.6 I think, and the problem is still evident.

Are you up to date with Flash and Shockwave also. Just grabbing for straws here.

As far as I know, I'm current on Flash, but I'km not sure I even have Shockwave.

As I said, it's not a big deal, just one of those irritating mosquito bites you can't help scratching!

Is the print command under the file menu also greyed out or just an icon up top? have you looked at you security settings? Is it all Pdf's or are you always opening one in particular?

Bill:

My primary use of PDF printing is the Newsday Crossword puzzle every day (DW is a crossword addict!), but the problem occurs just about every time I try to print a PDF.

The "Print" pushbutton isn't greyed out, but it doesnt respond when I put the cursor on it, and it doesn't let me click. As soon as Task Manager comes up, the "Print" button changes to an orange outline and works just fine when I click on it.

I have found out that to get it to work on another document, even if it's another day's crossword and I've stayed connected to Acrobat, I have to kill Task Manager and then re-start it to get the print button back in action.

The problem has occurred on trying to print things I've scanned in and on other PDF files.

It's an irritant rather than a show-stopper, but it's damned annoying.
