Problem w Direct 3D

I keep getting error messages that Direct 3D is not enabled. upon running a diagnostic, it is enabled but when I try to test it, it cancels because a key has been hit. I don't even have my hands on the keyboard, I have tried testing several times and always get the same message. I am on a Dell laptop with XP.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

I would update DirectX as a first shot ....

DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer

If the problem remains re-install/update your video drivers.

It could be, of course, that your graphics chip does not support Direct3D

I updated Directx, that didn't solve the problem. Remember who you're talking to, I don't know anything about video drivers or where to find them. I am working on a Dell Latitude 1311. Please help me Pete.

Hi Dee. I think these are the drivers you are looking for, Dell Latitude 131L Drivers. When you click the link click the plus sign next to video and download and install the video drivers. See if updating the graphics drivers solves the problem.

Can you think of any software or hardware changes that you made prior to this problem happening? Try shutting down all background prgorams that are running in the system tray as one of them could be interfering with Direct3D.

I have already tried closing all background programs running. The only thing I have done is clean my disk, no new software, I even scanned for viruses.

I think when everything else went haywire that fixed Direct 3D. My computer is such a mess I don't whether I'll get it fixed this time. I have a post under Malware, if I knew how to link it, i would. Wish me luck.
