Ghost 14.0 Wont Copy to External USB HD

I submitted this on the XP thread but decided to try here too.

I am running XP pro and just installed Ghost 14.0 I am TRYING to create a back up on an external HD with a USB connection. The computer I have is about 2 months old. When I try to run the backup job, I keep getting an error :

(Error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points for job: Drive Backup of OS (C:\). Error E7D1001F: Unable to write to file. Error EBAB03F1: The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error.
Details: 0xE7D1001F)

I have googled the error message. Gone into my computer, manage devices.. blah blah trying to see if theres something that I need to change. I see nothing.
I can backup the drive image to a C drive folder and then copy and paste it into the external drive just fine but it will NOT create the image directly to the external E drive. Any suggestions? Its alot of extra steps to do when this is supposed to be an automatic scheduled job.

Thanks!
