I have a CD with family photos which I burned on my desktop computer using Picasa3. When I put the CD into my laptop it displays: Error Starting Program The PICASACD.EXE file is linked to missing export KERNEL32.DLL:MoveFileWithProgressW. The CD plays perfectly on all other Home Desktop comps. (WinXP SP3), The laptop OS is ME. How can I get the CD to display in the laptop? Neil.

Hi Arie, thanks for your reply but, Picasa 2.0.0 (Build 18.84 unregistered) for Microsoft Windows 98, ME, 2000 and XP is working in the laptop with Win ME as the OS? It would appear the problem is the missing KERNEL32.DLL
Does Win ME not have this DLL originally? How can I get and install this DLL?
I tend to think that all Picasa builds should be compatible with each other but just have additional improvements to their systems? I've Googled and looked in the Picasa Forum without any luck and note that many users of Picasa 3 would like to return to Picasa 2 as they are having problems with Picasa 3. Neil.
Hi, Just to mention I have Picasa 2 on one PC and Picasa 3 on the other and there is no problem in exchanging CD's one I made in 2 exhibits fine in 3 I would be spitting chips if it didn't as I have backed up more than a thousand images with Picasa 2.

Yea, and what about the other way around? That's what's the problem here... I would expect it to work the way you are doing it, but one could expect problems the other way around.
Thanks for the replies but methinks I have bigger problems with ME. I've spent the last couple of days trying to get the Quick Restore CD's to stabilize the OS as the system froze completely. I was warned that ME was not the best OS to use so if I don't get this working I'll bite the bullet and go for XP again. Will let you know the outcome. Neil.
No prob Arie, it works the same way, I have made Gift CD in Picasa 3 and it plays back in 2 just as it plays in 3.
I can of course not say that for the complete Picasa backup as I am not going to test that unless I have too.
Neil why on earth would you even bother with ME when you have XP available to you. If you like an older OS I would recommend Win. 2000 Pro SP4 I still have that and I always liked it I found it to be very stable.
hawk22, you ask a very good question. This was a freebie laptop with a faulty HDD. I enjoy learning to get things going and my mistake was obviously installing Picasa 2 when the laptop was working quite stable. I have got it going again but it appears to have a problem clicking off all of a sudden (switches off all power) and will restart immediately when I push the start button then go through scan disk. It gets B****y hot on the base so I wonder if the fan is working OK. Your suggestion is right about XP, it's just the license cost that's the problem. Neil.
Neil, if you like the laptop you might consider one of them stands that have a cooler fan build in to it.
On the other hand if you are a bit of handy man you can build one yourself. Either powered by the lappy or independent.
hawk22, I have already made a stand using small lath strips and drilled 1" holes to allow air to circulate under the lappy. I may have to get a fan and place under the unit as you suggest. I,m wondering whether there is a problem between the CPU and the heatsink as it gives me the impression that there is a thermal cutout that shuts the power off as protection against overheat. The laptop when started operates quite quietly then a fan like noise will develop and the air coming out the grille on the side gets warmer and then the click and all is shut down. If the heatsink paste is breaking down or someone has disturbed it prior to me getting given the laptop, I may be faced with a dismantle job to examine and repair. This will give me something to do on a rainy day when I can't play golf. Neil.
ps. Come to think of it there were 4 small screws missing from the base when I got it???
Sounds very much like it Neil as if there is a overheating problem there. Agree with you, good job for a rainy day.
Most I ever done on a lappy is increased ram, but been thinking about getting a old one just to experiment with.
I would say that if it is the CPU overheating than even a fan under it will not be any good, too risky to cause serious damage.
I'm posting on the laptop at the moment. I've left it running for a couple of hours and noticed that the fan does start - run - stop which indicates that it is working OK. I think that when a heavy load is applied - the cutout occurs. Being an ex Auto Tech, I like to work with the Workshop Manual but I haven't been able to track down one for this model. HP obviously don't want anyone other than approved service centers pulling these things apart, but if you got a 2001 Compaq Presario 17XL482 for free who would want to pay their labour charges? Neil.
Hi Neil, have you given it a good blow out with a can of compressed air, I know the stuff is not cheap.
With warmer wetter coming up you could fix 2 hard drive coolers two sets of two fans under your stand that you build and run them off an old PSU. Just something to do on a rainy day
Hi hawk22, I have a pattern which has developed - the laptop will run OK with small tasks, but give it a big job and the fan starts and within a couple of minutes - the click and total power off. I can disconnect it from wall power and leave it for an hour and reconnect and away she goes again. I'll let you know how the fan cooler works when I get to make it. The wife and I are away for a week up to see the sights of Coromandel and visit rele's so the computers will have a rest for at least a week. Neil.
