I just found the video can be copied into iTunes, but I just want the audio. Want to convert to either MP3 or standard WAV file. I prefer the later.

Something you may try is the free program audacity. It records whatever sound the computer is currently playing. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ It makes wav files. If you want mp3 you will also need to download the Lame MP3 encoder. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help...all&i=lame-mp3 You would need to open both audacity and your video. Hit the record button in audacity and start your video. It should record the sound from your video.

Thx Russ, this sounds perfect.
If the synch isn't right I can always edit the WAV file later.
And converting to MP3 is no problem once I have a WAV.

I noticed there is an "import audio" feature, so I tried it and got the copy, but w/ clipping (volume distortion when levels reached too high). Scrapped that.
Doing the recording now, per your suggestion, and it seems to be working fine, though it took some fiddling to get it going. Seems to want to default to mono, and the visual (sound bars) are inconsistent. Sometimes they show stereo, sometimes not. At times it shows the wavelength, other times not.
Any ideas what's going on?
I did some test recordings and they seem fine, so it appears to simply be visual inconsistencies w/ the program.
I just noticed that the main lower box (shows wavelength in mono), but nothing in stereo. Di you know what's up w/ this?
And how do I expert the WAV file when finished?

I was wrong. It just made a mono recording.
How do I get into stereo mode?

Went into preferences to find the stereo settings, but I lost the input wavelength. DO you know how I can get it back.
I like that you can choose the soundcard, etc.

And I set the window that did say "what you hear" to WAV. Didn't seem to make a difference tough.

Now that I've made a few recordings I really like it. Really handy little program.
Thx Russ!

I just have used the program to turn my LP records and music tapes into mp3. At
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/help/faq has a list of FAQ, that may answer some of your questions. Also at
http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Tutorials it has some tutorials. I have not had any problems once I set the program to record in stereo it stays in that setting. To set to record in stereo go to Edit>Preferences>Audio I/O tab and under Recording>Channels set the setting to 2(Stereo). One other thing, when you are doing your recording of the DVD don't run anything that will make a sound as that sound will be in your recording.

I got the stereo bit, but when I'm done I have to shut down the program and restart it so I can make another recording. How do you clear out the recording to start fresh?

There are two ways to start a new recording. You can go to file>new. That opens another window, then you can just close the first window that you nolonger need. Then too you if you go to edit>undo record it deletes the recording you have done. Then when you are ready for your next recording you hit the record button.

Are you trying to rip the audio from a video file? If you are there are easy ways to do this.

The free way? If its a dvd you will need to rip it to the computer and save it.

Download and install Super. Select any of the "Audio Only" selections (which ever audio type you need) and then drag and drop your video onto Super.

Click encode and your done.
