PC Anywhere won't answer phone

I recently installed PC Anywhere on my Win 98 machine. I installed a host and remote user for both my cable modem and my robotics phone modem. I can get my cable modem to answer when I'm in my house. But I can't get my phone modem to pick up from a distant location. The phone rings, but it won't pick up and talk to me. It's probably just a simple setting, but I don't know what it is. Any ideas?

Right click on the Host icon and go to properties. Make sure the modem or your specific modem is selected. (not tcp/ip)

Is your robotics phone modem internal or external

If External make sure it is set to auto anaswer (dip switch 5 up)

US Robotics Sportster Dip Switch Settings:

Dip Switch
Switch Setting

(1) DTR normal/override
Place in "Override" position to force DTR on

(2) Verbal or Numeric Result Codes
N/A since result codes should be turned off

(3) Suppress or Display Result Codes
Place in "Suppress" position

(4) Echo/No Echo of Off-line Commands
Place in "No Echo" position

(5) Auto Answer/No Auto Answer
Place in "Auto Answer On" position

(6) Carrier Detect normal/override
Place in "Override" position to force Carrier Detect on

(7) NVRAM or Factory Defaults
Place in "Factory" position

(8) Dumb or Smart mode
Place in "Smart" mode

My modem is internal. How do I check the settings if it is internal? Where is it?

Thanks

When you Right click on the Host icon and go to properties is the check mark on a com port or the modem?

Are the versions of PcA the same on both ends? Seems like I recall ver 10 haveing a problem with win XP.

ps. Symantecs web site is to die for...

This may not be the case here but there have been cases discussed on this BB in the past about Internal PCI Modems not working properly when a cable Modem is also involved.

An External would probably work fine.

I am lead to believe that 2K and XP work much better with External Modems anyway.

PcA versions are both same version. Check mark in properties is on modem not com port.
