I am using Office 2003 with Vista.
I use Outlook for my E-Mail and my E-Mail editor is Word.
Does any one know how to get the Signature box or button back under Insert/Auto Text?
I created two signatures and Microsoft put them under Insert/Auto Text/Normal Button.
At one time their was a Signature Box or Button but it is now gone.
All I can find is how to create a Signature but nothing on getting that button back and put my signatures under it.

    Technically, anything you'd see under:
Insert > Auto Text > Normal
Should be auto complete entries associated with the "normalemail.dot" template.

If you do not see "signature" in the path:
Insert > Auto Text > Signature
Then you have no actual signature associated with Outlook.

In theory, you could have your name set up as an auto complete entry, but technically that is not a signature, it is an auto complete entry.

To add an actual signature, in the main outlook window click:
Tools > Options > Mail Format > Signatures

if you have outlook checking more than one account, be careful to make sure the signature is associated with the desired account in the "select signatures for account:" drop down box.

    Outlook Signature

I have done just that but Microsoft put them under the normal button. It did not create a signature box or button. Is their anything else I can do to force Microsoft to create a signature box or button.

I am using Word as editor Outlook 2003 under Vista Home premium 64 bit.

I cannot figure out how to get Outlook to recognized the Signature list in Word created under XP on old computer. It does not see it when going to Tools > Oprions > Mail Format > Signatures.

I have only one mail account.

    Thanks for your input

You'll need to click the "signatures" button.
Then choose edit/remove/new to work with the actual signatures for Outlook.

I tried that but the Outlook program still cannot find the list of signatures stored in Word, but is in a different place in Vista than XP

    Thanks again

Word uses a different template for Word than it does for Outlook.
If you are creating signatures to use in Word, they will not readily be available for email usage in Outlook unless you create them.

I have a list of signatures that were created in Outlook 2003 under XP using the Word Editor.

There has to be a way that Vista can retrieve this signature list.

Under XP it was stored in Doc & Settings, etc.

Vista does not use a folder "Documents and Settings ".

    You'll want to use:
    Users\%USER ID%\AppData\Microsoft\Signatures (I think)

I don't have vista on my box at home.
I'll check one of my Vista Installs at work to make sure this is correct.

I knew that Vista didn't use Doc&settings, but could not figure out where the folder went. I figured it was in Users, etc, but could not find it.

After you double check the exact address, will you tell me how to "connect" it to Outlook. -- since Outlook is not finding it.

    Thanks

Ok, I have CREATED a new signature in Outlook 2003, running on Vista, and it landed in this folder:

    C:\Users\%USER ID%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Signatures

However, in AppData, there are also two other folders:
    Local
    LocalLow

I point this out becasue being on the inside of Microsoft, it is very likely the use of the Roaming folder is controlled by Group Policy and we are running Exchange Server.

Therefore, it is possible the correct folder for you may actually be the "Local" folder.

I have yet to try and MOVE an existing signature into this folder. I will have to shut down this partition and boot into an XP Partition with Office 2003 on it, create a signature and then create a zip of it, reboot into this partition and see if Outlook will recognize it.

I hope these are some super elaborate signatures that you're working with because it sure seems like a lot of trouble when it is so easy to make fresh ones on the Vista install of Office 2003...

Yes, you can access the signatures through Outlook once they are imported to that folder.

However, you canont select one from within the Open editror window. YOu have to select one as the default for the email account from which you intend to send.

I have a very long list of signatures, and it would be helpful to be able to transfer them from XP to Vista.

I did put the signatures into the correct place in Vista.

But , I don't understand what you mean by the "open editor" window.

Even the one signature I created in Vista does not show up on my new emails.

Usually - as in XP- the "default" signature that you chose would be at the bottom of your email.

Then you could "right click" on the signature and choose another signature....

I do not see my "default" signature that I created in Vista.

    Thanks again
