Microsoft Work 8 Program takes up 587 MB. Never use it. Want to uninstall.

Using Add/Remove, process starts, says it is configuring Works. Then get error 1316, attempting to read C:\Windows\Installer\Work8.MSI. (This file is not present at that location.) I do not have the CD (OEM installed- Gateway) to install the program before deleting it.

Will anything bad happen if I use REGEDIT, then under HKEY_CURRENT_USER and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, go to SOFTWARE and erase the entries for WORKS? I would also delete WORKS from the PROGRAM FILES folder. All this followed by something like RegCure or Registry Mechanic (to get rid of links, shortcuts, etc.)?

Am I just asking for serious trouble?

    Thanks

It looks like "install.log" file is missing.
Removing everything manually may be little bit risky, since Works is pretty complex program.
If there is no other choice, you may attempt it. Just make sure, you set Restore Point, backup your registry, BEFORE you make any move.
But first, you may try ZSoft Uninstaller, which I used successfully couple of times. It attempts to uninstall program, even when "install.log" file is missing.

    AND...

    Wait for others opinions.
