zone alarm true vector question

i had zone alarm installed in my computer, after i did an uninstall its still showing up in my Control panel> Administrative tolls> Services as disabled. my first question is why is it even showing up in here at all after an uninstall? when i try to reinstall zone alarm it tells me to shut down my true vector service, so i'm assuming that this is referring to the service still in my services list. when i right click on the service, i cant enable or anything, so im at a loss that my computer still tells me to shut down this service when it obviously isnt running.
is this a problem with registry traces left behind after my uninstall or something else. i want to get every instance of zone alarm out of my system so i can do a clean install. any suggestions?
thanks ahead of time

ZA has a well known rep for being a rather PIA to uninstall.

Try these instructions. It's a cached version of the main page which I was unable to reach.

You may have to install it to uninstall it totally. I had a user on my forum with a similar problem, I'll go and dig that thread up to see what we did. It was last year sometime.
