At work, we started to test out a new HP scanner. We like the way it works and the way if feeds documents, but the HP director software is not compatible with Lotus Notes. My boss doesn't want to give one user an IMAP outlook account so the scanner will interface nicely. Does anyone know of a 3rd party software or plugin that will give the HP Director the ability to interface with Lotus Notes? TIA, as always. BTW the OS is Win2k (the boss is willing to go to XP if necessary on this machine).

What error are you receiving per compatibility with Lotus?
I'm running a Hp network All-In-One on my home network. I have been able to disable all "Hp named running processes" from task manager (except two running under svchost) with no issues, including "HP Director software". During the normal install, your scanner / Hp scanning software should have positioned itself to be called whenever a scanning task is requested ... example from Irfanview, Photoshop, ect. I do have HP director software on a keyboard shortcut to request "software updates and / or setting menus. In short, it is a menu to launch tasks or views .. but NOT required to be loaded (in Task Manager) to do a scanning process.
There is no specific error from Lotus Notes, it just won't work with the HP director software. We are trying to use the "Scan to Email" button and assign it to Lotus Notes. It works great in OE, you press the button, and it scans, then opens a new message with the scanned file as an attachment. The user is not very computer savy and refuses to learn/do any extra steps to get things to work, so I'm just trying to idiot proof this as much as possible.

This would appear to be a "default email program" issue. I have never worked with Lotus Notes. Can it replaces OE in function for office use? If yes, try releasing OE as default email and reassign Lotus Notes as default email program. Will try to Google a HP scanner / Lotus Notes handling solution. If I find something, I'll pass it on.
• Send to multiple destinations. HP AutoStore sends to multiple document-management applications as well as network folders, printers, and fax services. The software comes standard with routing to Microsoft SharePoint Portal Server (version 2003), Microsoft Exchange, and Lotus Notes for easy integration into existing management systems.
I wish it were something as simple as reassigning the default email program, but it's not. Inside the setup for the buttons, the only choices are Outlook and Outlook Express. (I wish there was a browse for button, our microtek scanners allow us to point the email button to the Lotus Notes .exe and it handles opening a new email correctly) That's definately way to much money for one scanner and one user. Thanks for the help.

Would be a logical and sensible option. It would appear HP prefers to cripple the "browse for button" and have you use their more expensive option.
I just tried with my All-In-One to send a scan to email (ThunderBird is my default email). It opened up OE. I did notice "WORD" was a selection option to send the scan image. If directed to WORD, can you automate the WORD document into Lotus Notes?

Going to Word sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. Too bad there are no 3rd party drivers/software for the HP scanners so I could just dump the director all together.

Is their a reason why he does not allow the user to have access to IMAP outlook? With an XP OS, he can have good security to control access. It would appear to be the most cost effective at this time.

We have about 1600 employees in our agency with Lotus Notes. If one finds out Person A gets special email programs, they are all going to want it. We switched to Lotus Notes for it's workflow capabilities which is key to our operation. In all likelyhood my boss is going to reallocate the scanner to someone with more willingness to use it. Thanks for the help Dennis.
