Getting rid of MSN Messenger completely

Hello- I have checked other post on this subject but when I tried the following 'run' presented nothing:To get rid of MS Messenger completely, go to Start>Run and type in (or copy and paste from here):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Click OK.

Any other suggestions to completely remove this **** from my computer? I don't use it and never will.

Thanks.

Yes, I understand that------- my problem is that when I copy and paste or type that information in:start, run and then click ok- the run program does not respond to the command it just goes away and nothing else happens.

Any suggestions?

1) Click on Start, Control Panel
2) Double click on Add or Remove Programs
3) Find MSN Messenger in the list and click on it
4) Click on Remove

Sorry there is nothing in add/remove programs. The only place I find anything regarding MSN messenger is in c drive, programs files, messenger. When I try to delete that folder on content it tells me I can't.

Any other suggestions?

The one located at Program Files\messenger is Windows messenger. Different animal as you know. I got rid of my MSN Messenger but I'm pretty sure I did it in a dos session. I run FAT32 and it's no problem dealing with things like that.

I'm sorry, I can't help you. It seems you have fought the good fight and tried all that is supposed to work to no avail. You might send a message to Jonathan Kay since he offers to help with problems on his site.

Good luck.

I am a little confused with which messenger as the cmd above will remove Windows Messenger MSN is downloaded and installed independently Sorry if I have totally misunderstood

If it is Windows messenger (and not MSN which should appear in the general Add/Remove)
Quote:
If for some reason this doesn't work for you, try this:

1) Open a file named sysoc.inf with Notepad or another text editor. This file can be found in a folder named INF, which is a subfolder of the Windows folder (or in some cases the winnt folder, depending on how your OS was installed).

2) Look for the following line:

msmsgs=msgrocm.dll,OcEntry,msmsgs.inf,hide,7

and remove the word "hide" while leaving the commas on place. Close and save the file.

3) Now open the Add/Remove Programs applet in the Control Panel, (Windows components) and you will be able to remove Windows Messenger like any other program.

I am note sure if this is relevant, but if you wish to remove Windows messenger at step 3, there is an additional step you need to take:

2.5) Select "Add/Remove Windows Components"

The very annoying Windows Messenger is listed at the bottom of the Windows Components list.
