How do I find the registry entry for a given program?

I'm using an IBM 701 486/75Mhz with the Windows 95 when I travel. My internet provider is PeoplePC. I downloaded their most recent dialer program as it purports to allow me, while off line, to get the local access number, or lack thereof, of anyt community I happen to be in. When I installed the file it placed a new dialup connection box in Explorer. However, when I attempted to use it the file reported a script error. I then learned that for the program to run properly I needed another file from Microsoft which I installed. However, I still got the same script error. I contacted Tech Support at PeoplePC and they advised I should uninstall and then reinstall the program.

Restart your computer in Safe Mode.

The problem is that the string (D803840B-3882-11D4-B01B-0050BAA25E9C is not where TechSupport said it should be and using Regedit's Find command doesn't find it either. I zipped the files in the directory created by the install program but an attempted reinstall results in the message that I'm using the most recent version of the program and the install program exits. Since I got that message after I zipped all the files and did a cold reboot something somewhere is telling the install program that the dialing program is in existence. My thought is that it might be in the registry but I have no idea how to find a program's registry strings when you only know the programs name. Tech Support at PeoplePC gives me a phone number to call but that's just a recording that doesn't even apply to the problem. Any ideas?

Do you still have the oldreg.reg file? If so, right click on it and choose edit. Copy and paste the info to your next post. It may lead us on the right track.

The "oldreg.reg" file is the exported copy of my existing registry and is about 5Mb which exceeds the length that can be posted. I have searched that file also and cannot find the string.

The files under Uninstall are apparently info used by Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. It's hard to see what deleting that key would accomplish.

Is the PeoplePC software listed in Add/Remove Programs? If so, that's the safest way to remove it. I'm surprised that a computer OEM would recommend registry surgery. And, if they didn't include warnings about the dangers of going in there, the questionable practice is compounded.

One thing is certain: their website is is sorely lacking in support information and options.

We haven't had much luck in the Win95 forum. Let's transfer this to Applications.

Try a registry cleaner like this one "RegCleaner 4.3"
http://www.jv16.org/
It will give you a list of all software refrenced in the registry and it's location plus, if you wish,it will clean it and all of it's supporting entries out of the registry for you safely .

Safe, simple, effective

READ ALL INFO BEFORE USING OR POST BACK FOR CONFIGURATION HELP
