when typing a fraction in word 2000 such as 1/2 it is usually converted into a small version (sort of combined). Is there any setting which can convert all the fractions in that way ?

I'm playing around with word even as I type. If I don't get to frustrated with the thing and I find an easier way, I'll append to post.
You'd think if it could do 1/2, 3/4 etc it have an option to do this to all fractions.
Hopefully some other member will come up with a better "mousetrap".

Okay...Word has a limited autoformat for a few common fractions. I have tried all sorts of alternative ways to get the same size and effect by using various options such as applying "subscript and superscript" shortcuts on the numbers, resizing the font on the fraction, inserting an object - Microsoft Equation 3.0 [which by the way is the standard for inseritng equations in a word doc].
I haven't found a way to make all fractions the same size. So one can either disable the autoformating of the common fractions and use the same method to make them all or try to find a 3rd party app that will make this whole thing less painful.
I'll go look and see what's outthere. Be back in a bit......

There is another way to get the more common fractions (1/8, 3/8 etc. into Autocorrect fairly easily.
Click on Insert>Symbol then select a symbol type that has the fractions in it. Select the fraction (i.e. 1/8, 3/8 etc.) that you want then click on the "AutoCorrect" button at the bottom. When the Autocorrect box comes up you will see the fraction symbol in the "Replace With" box then type in the "Replace" box the fraction 1/8, etc. Click on OK to close the Autocorrect box then do the next fraction.
Now when you type the fraction it should autocorrect to the formatted symbol.
A bit tedious but probably better than the system in the link Ann gave.
Still can't see how to do this for odd ball fraction's like 13/16 etc. unless there is some way to get them into the symbol dialog boxes.
*click insert
*click object
*click Microsoft Equation 3.0
*From equation toolbar popup
*click on template for fractions
*click on the fraction style you desire
*Highlight subscript and superscript spots to enter numbers for fraction
*Click outside of eq box to insert equation.
Now to make all other equation insertions easier than this:
*rightclick on any equation made
*choose equation object
*choose option to "Open"
*this opens EQ with the equation , now available for editing
*simple click on numbers to edit or change fraction
Now it's a select/copy/and paste into doc operation.
You can do this thru the toolbar or use the shortcuts for the actions. [cntrl+A then cntrl+C, then click on word doc at desired insertion point and cntrl+V]
Leave the Equation editor open in background and when another Fraction needs to inserted, call it up, edit fraction, copy and paste.
Repeat as often as needed.

Alternative and less of a nuisance is just
*type your fraction by using the numbers and the backslash. *Highlight your first number[s] or the set prior to the slash,
and hit the cntrol key in combo with the shiftkey and press the + key.
*Highlight the numbers after the slash
*Hit the control key plus the = key
Tada instant fraction!!!!
And if you monkey around with the sub/superscript shortcuts, you'll find you can type the shortcuts prior to move the cursor typing numbers, letter or symbol. This will help in getting a proportionate size division symbol using sub/superscript combo for the slash. Just depends on how picky you are.

That is a cumbersome way to do it and I don´t get the correct look of the fractions. It is much easier to type 115/145 the "normal" way when the only difference is in slash length.
Repeating and editing a fraction, created the cumbersome way, can be accomplished like this:
Right-click the existing fraction and choose copy.
Paste into the new location.
Double click to open "edit box".
Double-click each number to edit.
N.B. I have Office XP.

You'll get no argument out of me Christer. Cumbersome is a mild adjective.
I would have just type the numbers and slashes, no muss, no fuss. Ontheotherhand, the poster was looking for something to globally set the autoformat for all fractions as opposed to just the common ones. You got to admit the autoformated ones look much better. Perhaps presentation mattered here.
Never did find a way to do this for all fractions so I was looking for an easy work around. Guess I didn't find that either....
I still entertained myself for a bit, while refreshing my memory on some of my setting options in word. No harm, no foul.

I didn´t intend to criticize ...... ...... I have myself tried to figure out how to make "pretty" fractions and You actually refreshed my memory too, on how to "Ctrl>+" (superpose ?) and "Ctrl>Shift>=" (subpose ?) letters and figures ...... ...... thanks for that!

Opps, never could keep the forwardslash and the backslash straight unless I thought about it really hard. Always did find this confusing.

On my key board, I must press control plus the shift to access the + which is on top of the = key [both on same key].Does this makes sense?

I found no translations in my dictionary for the swedish counterparts.
