Email Client Spam Reducer

Dear Fellow members,

I know everyone has issues with SPAM and unwanted Junk Mail.
I wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions for an email Client which can assist in cutting down on these 2 very annoying things which have creeped up in the last years....I have been using Eudora for quite some time but the part of it where you filter out emails you do not want do not seem to work very well and is not very user friendly...Also it seems ...when you unsubscribe to email you don't want and they ask for you email address I think they pass it along to thousands and thousands of other spammers..or something...it sure seems like when you ask one to stop..you get many many more.....Is there a email client which can better deal with these spam messages or maybe a WEB Site they can be Forwarded too...to report them...Thanks for your time ...Have a wonderful day!!! : ) Peace to you!!!

My System

Hi szvpvp

All of us have been where you are. Spam filters are getting better on each release.... so are spammer's in trying to defeat them. The simplest is to start over. Assign yourself a NEW email address. Only trusted family and friends have access to this account.. including NO "forward emails" using your email address which ends up sent to half the world emails. NO Internet greeting cards sent to you using that address (yes, them address are sold) and absolutely NO Internet sites requesting your email address. Your CURRENT email account becomes your "give it to anyone" or "junk" account. If your email client has a "white / black" list use it. This does NOT reduce the spam... it reduces your effort in managing it, which is the core problem. Primarily anything you want is in you NEW account or shows up via "white list" in your "Junk account". I receive approximately plus 100 emails per day. Less than 10 per day are NOT spam. Effort to manage this is a few minutes per week. The one requirement, discipline in giving out your NEW email account to only trusted family, friends and restrictions on how it is used. I apologized for being somewhat brash in my phrasing, but this is the easiest long term solution.
PS... If required or more simplistic, having a 3rd account for "trusted Internet sites" may speed up your control over spam. Nothing is perfect, hopefully it provides another option to your problem.

szvpvp--It sounds like you already know this but never unsubscribe to spam. That just confirms that that email address is active.
(However, it is OK to unsubscribe to a reputable site to which you originally did subscribe.)

Personally, I use several e-mail accounts to control spam. All are now free. I don't use my ISP e-mail for anything and haven't for several years. This allows me to hop around ISP's without change of address notifications.

First, all my online purchases go through a single account at Yahoo. I use Yahoo because it accepts confirmations very quickly. I move those confirmations, et al to another folder. Anything else arriving is spam and I just delete it!

I juggle everything else through two Hotmail accounts. I use Hotmail because it works with OE like a POP3. Hotmail generates a lot of spam. But Hotmail also has a feature that puts all e-mail not sent from someone ALREADY listed in my address book at the Hotmail site, into the Junk/Bulk folder.

I save my OE address book as a .csv file for backup purposes. But this .csv file uploads to Hotmail very quickly. So there's no effort in synchronizing the address books.

Next, the folders at Hotmail get downloaded the same way. That is, if it is in the Bulk mail folder, it gets downloaded to OE the same way. I only get the full messages from my INBOX. All other folders (sent, saved, junk, etc) have only the headers downloaded.

Rather than having all Junk automatically deleted, I want to see the headers. Sometimes I get new e-mail from someone not in my address book, as they may have changed addresses. Or, sometimes my medical provider for instance will send e-mail consistent with a manner in which spam is sent. This way I still get it.

But since spam is corralled. It doesn't bother me. If I'm suspicious of any e-mail, I preview it at Hotmail's site.

With OE, I dont use the preview pane.

I use two Hotmail accounts: personal and public. I have my public account listed here. It's only e-mail, not my personal home address! It has been working quite well for several years.

Ray..............

No doubt you don't see much spam.

But man... with all this trouble and fenaggelaging you are still effected by it and still paying the price.

I hate spam but I sure had rather handle it face on from 1 point of entry.

I use my ISP only, my ISP mail filters, MailWasher, and consistently add to my blocked senders those very few that now get thru. Am now down to only a few spam items a week.

But everyone needs to do what works for them. So you keep on keeping on!

Mike
