Pioneer DVD-R software Instructions

Just got a Pioneer DVD-R drive, not yet installed. Software instructions says to uninstall previous installations of burning software. I have retail versions of Nero and Arc-Soft, I have used for burning SVCD. Nero includes DVD burning software and "In CD" UDF packet writing.

I have had previous experience with hardware specific software, replaced Sony CDR drive with Artec, changed software from "B's Clip" (which said on install that it would only work with the Sony drive.) to "In CD" packet writing software. Now "In CD" cannot reformat, read or write to CDRW disk previously written on Sony drive and formatted by "B's Clip". (Grrr)

CD from Pioneer has Sonic's "My DVD 4.0" and says Arc-Soft 1.1 is part of that installation.

CD includes Roxio's "Easy CD Creator 5.3 Basic" and "Pinnacle Instant Write" Packet writing software.

Can somebody give me some advice on these software issues? I'd like to keep my retail versions of Nero and ArcSoft. Don't know if they will work with new drive. Any help would be appreciated.

I would think you should be able to install the drive and use the software you have now. You can take a look at this web page to see if the drive is supported by Nero. If it's not listed I'd give it a try anyway. If Nero sees the drive you should be OK.

I'll second that. Stick with Nero. Changing burning software can lead to more problems, too.

If Nero doesn't support the drive (doubtful), just download the most recent cfg file from Nero and put it in the Nero folder.

Software bundled with hardware represents a successful business deal and not necessarily a match made in heaven

Abraxas & Zander: Thanks for the Input. I went to Nero's web site and they indicate support for the Pioneer drive. So, I'll go with current software.

Question: Think I could or shoud install Sonic's "My DVD" from the CD? I have no idea what this program is or does, but it is not burning software. (I think?) I have a Mini DV camcorder, easy to get AVI files from camera to PC, next problem is editing and coverting to MPG2 then burning to DVD disk with new drive.

For something that seems so simple, this has become a real challenge!

This links to a savable pdf document about MyDVD.

http://www.mediarte.com/products/dvd/mydvd/

It looks like it, too, contains burning software and a lot of nice video editing and capture features.

I have never had any problems with Nero interfering with any other software, including other burning software (I have Prassi, CloneCD, and Nero all living in harmony).

Couldn't hurt to try it! It says it helps you turn those old VCR tapes into DVD's.

Thanks Guys. I looked over the Sonic site. I just wish software worked as well as the vendors say it will. I'll give My DVD and currently installed software a go and I'll post back all results. First I got to get the drive installed, I have a post going in hardware, looking for directions on where to put the DVD R drive. Some good input, not entirely sure yet, lots of questions.

Thanks again, I'll post back when drive up and running and software tried out.
