When I installed a program on my computer, all indications is that it was installed on my computer, as it is in my "All Programs" & the icon appears on my desktop as well as it is in the "Programs installed on my computer ".

However, when I click on it to open/run, I get this message:

"The procedure entry point ?_xfunc@tr1@std@@YAXXZ could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCP90.dll. "

I tried several times to uninstall & reinstall, yet continued to get the same message. I tried to resolve by downloading/installing a program to fix MSVCP90.dll problems, Ad-AwareAE and got the exact same message regarding that application.

Which OS are you using and what is the name of the app you're trying to install?

Did you look on the apps web site for info in the DLL error?

I hope this is what you need:

MS Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002 SP3; Dell Computer Corporation, Dell DIMENSUION DIM4500 Intel(R), Pentium(R) 4CPU 2.00GHz, 1.99 GHz, 768 MB of RAM.

I was not able to find any DLL information on the application's website & the application I downloaded & installed was supposed to correct the problem - it was from Lavasoft, Ad-AwareAE was the application.

Thank you Pete. Forgive my ingnorance please, for I do not have the computer expertise & knowledge that would be beneficial to me and whomever it is attempting to help me. I did access those 2 links, and it appears from both I should uninstall & reinstall the Lavasoft Ad-AwareAE. When I initially installed it I attempted to run the scan and that is when I got the MSVCP90.dll message.

I did not understand about accessing the HJT forum for this particular problem, however, or how to. I do have HJT installed on my computer for other unrelated problems from some months back.

From the 2nd link, I did download the MS Malicious Software Removal Tool, however.

My first suggestion may be the better of the two for you ....

Uninstall Ad-Aware - it is really past it's 'sell by date' according to our Malware Analysts :) Try SuperAntiSpyware - install, update and run.

If you want to persist with Ad-Aware - there is no definitive answer to your error message, the solution which apparently worked in one thread was ....

    Ununstall Ad-Aware

Search the Registry for references to Ad-Aware, Lavasoft, AdAware and delete them. Reboot, re-install Ad-Aware and Update.

As ferreting in the Registry can be extremely dangerous I suggest you download the uncrippled 30 day trial of jv16PowerTools and use 'Find in Registry' to list all entries for Ad-Aware, Lavasoft, AdAware - you will need to list these in the Find in Registry opening dialogue box.

Delete all the entries found, making sure to accept the prompt to backup the entries.

You should also ensure that you are up to speed on all MS updates through Windows Update as the file in question is part of MS Visual Studio 2008 for which, if memory serves, was the subject of recent pdates.

Forget about HJT - that alone is no longer frontline and should not be used except under guidance. If malware is suspected you will be directed to the Malware & Virus Removal forum where there are instructions for posting analytical logs.

Again, thank you Pete. I am not wanting to persist with Ad-Aware. I did uninstall it as I stated.

I will try SuperAntiSpyware as you advise, as well as follow your advuise using jv16PowerTools (uncrippled version), and I will forget about HJT.

Since I am not persisting in Ad-Aware, is there something I should do in place of re-installing it after I followed your instructions w/jv16PowerTools?
I have downloaded & installed the jv16PowerTool, but it did not indicated whether it was the uncrippled 30 day trial, and it will not open/load when I click on it. I will wait & try again in a little while. However, please tell me how do I locate "Find in the Registry "?

If you have dumped Ad-Aware there is no need to clean out the Registry of any traces of it. The suggestion to clean out the Registry was made on the basis that you intended to try re-installing Ad-Aware. SuperAntiSpyware will do the same job as Ad-Aware.

I noted that the trial of jv16PowerTools was 'uncrippled' because so many trial versions of software are crippled to some extent or another in that there are functions that cannot be performed or the final outcome cannot be acted upon/saved, etc. The trial of jv16PowerTools is fully functional in every respect.

The download needs to be installed by double clicking on jv16pt_setup_hb.exe - your download file name may be slightly different. Although you have no need to run jv16.... now, when the program opens there is an icon for 'Find in Registry'.

Thank you again Pete, please do not think I am unappreciative. When I clicked on the green bar that states "start download now" on the jv16powertool website, it did not require my double clicking; it took me to another page & I had to enter my email address & then click download (only once & it began to download, required I either run or save in order to dowload & then to run or save again to install; this place the jv16powertool on my desktop as a shortcut with the same file name as you indicate above, as well as in my taskbar. In order to open it, I did double click and it would not do anything, so maybe I don't know how to open it to locate or see "Find iun Registry" and that is the help I need. I right clicked on it as well, and clicked on "open" & still it would not do anything. This is where I need HELP. On the website it does have what it calls it's freeware, powertools lite, for cleaning and error fixing, which requires double-clicking.

I was indicating that you should double-click on the file you downloaded to install it on your computer, not on the Download, etc buttons on the website.
It sounds like you did double click on the download button and downloaded it twice :)

It would appear that you have saved the installation file to a folder on your Desktop. Double clicking on the file should initialise the installation -see the screenshots below - the desktop icons may differ for you as I run Windows 7 ....

Screenshot 1 - Download saved to desktop

Screenshot 2 - first installation screen after double clicking on icon above

Screenshot 2 - Desktop icon for installed program

    Screenshot 4 - Opening window of jv16PowerTools.

Your download may be corrupted - delete it and start over.

Pete, I did not double-click the download button at any time. I just was not required to double-click after it downloaded in order to install it. I have uninstalled it several time & reinstalled it (jv16powertool), & still get this message. I will try o9ne more time to download & install jv16powertool. I will make sure not to double click on the download button & double-click on the install if given the opportunity. From the past several times, I do not believe it gave me the option to do so, however. What I seen was run and or save once downloaded, I will pay closer attention to make sure I do not miss anything or opportunities to double-click on the install option.

Each time I have downloaded & installed the jv16powertool it indicated the install was successfully installed on my computer.

Maybe you did not set itto put an icon on the desktop - go to Start > All Programs > jv16PowerTools and run it from there.

Pete, the icon has been on my desktop each & every time, numerous times. It is from that shortcut that I attempt to open. At this point I need to make sure what it is that I am doing all of this for.

Are you able to tell me anything about the MSVCP90.dll message I am getting = why & what it means?:

"The procedure entry point ?_xfunc@tr1@std@@YAXXZ could not be located in the dynamic link library MSVCP90.dll. "
Where is the dyanmic link library located and is there a way of looking at it Is the MSVCP90.dll the name of a dynamic link library & what is it for?
How does the jv16powertool remedy this, because it is what I am getting this message from?

    Hello JTee,

I thought you had decided to uninstall and not use adaware Lavasoft! In previous threads Pete explained that Lavasoft-adaware has become less than desirable or outdated. It's not the great utility it used to be.

You had agreed to try "superantispyware" instead. I use this myself and find it works well.

Jv16power tools was only suggested as long as lavasoft adaware was still in the picture. No lavasoft means no need for jv16powertools means you can stop struggling with the installation of both.

    Opps,
msvcr90.dll would either be in system32 folder or if a fussy app needs a particular version in the folder where the application is located.
    See:
    http://www.google.com/search?q=MSVC...s=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a

Download Superantispyware and give it shot.

    -----------------
    Just for your information: Simplified
MSVCP90.dl is library belonging to the visual basic runtimes. This, as a runtime, is a file that is used by the people who wrote and coded the software, using visual basic (in this case Adaware). There are many versions and many runtime files. Some software expects and needs certain versions. Maybe older or newer. Choose wrong version, corrupted dll or place in an unexpected directory....etc and at runtime or when the application, dependent on the dll, loads to run, it will spit out an error and not run as expected.

While some applications can be made to work around this issue. In this case the problem you were having was fixed most often with suggested method. Unfortunately you really needed to clean all references to ad-aware thoroughly before attempting reinstall. Hence suggestion of registry cleaning using jv16tools.

Solution: Forget lavasoft adaware, uninstall and forget jv16power tools, it was only going to be usable for 30 days anyway.

    Download and use superantispyware.

Hope this helps to clear some things up for you.

    ------------------------
On the flip side, if your continuing to try to install jv16power tools as a mater of principle now, Try turning off any security protection you may have running that would interfere with the installation and running of this jv16.

I, when I installed this did get a popup telling me that jv16 recognized that I had avira antivirus running and that continuing to run this in combination with jv16 could cause kv16 to malfunction. This may hold true in your case.

Please note!!! Pete has suggested you don't not use the desktop shortcut but use the startmenu programs file shortcut instead, you may even wish to go to and run the executible directly.

    ==================
Phew!!! and if the above isn't enough reading for you and you are still awake how about the below personal experience:

I downloaded this out of curiosity. As you have done:
page1> I clicked on the uncrippled (<-no feature limitations) jv16 PowerTools 2009 30 day trail.

page2> Got curious and didn't fill in email, I just continued to click "download ", It worked.

Got dialogue popup to "save" and I chose my desktop as location.
Download was done and have jv16pt_setup_hh.exe sitting on desktop.
    Clicked twice on this
Told Uac popup to allow (windows 7 feature, you won't have this, but you need administrator rights)
next! Clicked accept on "license agreement "
next! let it install in "programs files" per default
    next! Chose full installation
next! let it put shortcuts in startmenu
next! chose addtional tasks, allowed all shortcut places except quicklaunch
next! setup warning that it was ready to begin, I clicked install button
next! install completed, now asked if I want to open the handbook or the program immediately. Nope and nope, unchecked both.
If given the choice, I always choose to do this as per my own preference.

Now I went the startmenu and chose to start the program from there as opposed to the desktop shortcut, Why? dunno, just did.
Again I had to allow uac.

At this point My memory gets a bit foggy. It had to configure itself with my user preferences. I didn't allow updates, I didn't allow scannow. Once the program (cpl opened with component icons) I used toolbar to allow an update check. From there, I was good to go, did a quick system analysis etc etc.

I did note that the initial configuration stated that it detected my antivirus program running in the background and that this may interfere with the Jv16 functions. I should have temporarily disabled avira but didn't. I would have had I detected that it did indeed cause a problem or conflict, I lucked out this time.

Thank you goddez1. I never reinstalled Ad-Aware after uninstalling it. I thought I was downloading/installing jv16powertool to resolve the problem of the MSVCP90.dll issue that I initially got when I downloaded/installed another software. When I downloaded/installed jv16powertool I received the same MSVCP90.dll message. I have uninstalled both of those applications. I am including some information that might shed some light on my initial problem I was attempting to resolve. I do have SuperAntiSpyware installed.

    Hello JTee,

    Made any progress on this?

Is this problem infrequent or just with a particular application?

Once again you have not provided the name of the fussy application that is spitting out or having an "msvcp90.dll problem ". What program?

    What is Watchtower?

    Hello goddez1,
The Watchtower Library 2009 CD ROM, which is a bible-based application & jv16powertool downloaded/installed from the website.

I provided system information from the CD ROM above (my last post); does that information help any? It showed that the program had downloaded & installed on my computer but that there was no installation, configuration or DLLs. Here it is again:

    Hi once again Jtee,

Please forgive the delay in my return to this post. I have had the grandkids here for the last 5 days and they always get 200% of attention and time.

I sure hope I understand and have not messed up yet again , that your problem is with the application and installation of "WatchTower 2009" causing the msvcp90.dll error. If so read on.....

Since we last spoke, I have since downloaded "WatchTower 2009" as an iso file, from megadownload.
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Z9XI9G60

I extracted this iso using 7zip
    http://www.7-zip.org/

Have you read the readme.txt on the cd?
I read the readme and noted that this program installs and needs, "Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 ":
But I have neither your version of windows, I use windows 7, nor your problem with msvcp90.dll, which is a dll component of Microsoft Visual C++ 2008. You could try to download and install this. See:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...34-3e03-4391-8a4d-074b9f2bc1bf&displaylang=en

Further, since I had downloaded the WatchTower iso and extracted all (7zip can handle iso extension) to a folder, I was able to run setup.exe from the folder, rather then the cd. Install and setup worked without a flaw. You may wish to give the method(s) I have used a try. I only hope the uninstall is as friendly.

I tried as best I could to follow all instructions given me to the best of my understanding them. I uninstalled the antivirus programs I had installed on my computer & tried to download microsoft essentials suite and a program by AV Suite downloaded and now my computer is infected & it won't allow me to access the internet except for it's site & a porno site, as well I cannot access my windows security information, help or anything else.
