Hi everyone. I am running Windows Movie Maker version 2.1.4026.0 and I have a small problem with it.

I started making a movie about 2 months ago. I downloaded the K-Lite Codec Pack so I could open a variety of file types in Windows Media Player 11. I downloaded videos from youtube where I had to convert them to avi files. I then imported the avi files into Movie Maker.

Windows Movie Maker runs fine. I can open my project, save it and edit it with no problems. The issue though is if I click File< Save Movie File< Select My Computer to save the file to, and follow the steps in the wizard to save my project as a wmv file, the wizard hangs at the step, saving your movie. The estimimated time doesn't show anything. I have left the movie at the saving your movie stage for 5 hours and there was no progress at all. The movie file is 863.5 MB. How long should Movie Maker take to save a 863.5 MB wmv file? I went to the directory where I saved the movie file and the wmv file was there but it had a duration of 0 seconds and had a size of 13.3 KB. It seems that movie maker had no trouble creating the file but it just couldn't add content to it. That shows that its not a permissions problem.

I have 1 GB of RAM, 3070 MB in my paging file, 20 processes running in Task Manager and 35 GB of harddrive space on my E drive which is where I tried saving the movie file. I also tried saving it on my 320 GB C drive to no avail. My Computer is more than capable of saving this movie file. I have also verified all of the files that I imported into Movie Maker and they are all in the correct directory and they play in the storyboard without issue.

As a test to check to make sure that Movie Maker wasn't corrupted I made a test video and imported one of my 30 second saved youtube videos that I downloaded into Movie Maker. I went to File< Save Movie File and it saved fine. That tells me that Windows Movie Maker is running fine. I guess my Movie file is so large that Movie Maker can't save it.

So if my movie is that large is there any way that I can save it? If Windows Movie Maker can't save it is there some third party software that I can use that will save a Windows Movie Maker file as a wmv file? I would greatly appreciate some help with this issue. Thanks guys. :)

Thanks for the link Russ. I looked through the website and it pretty much just enforced the conclusions that I already discovered by myself. I am going to try saving the movie file as a different movie type and see what happens.

I tried saving the movie as a different file type but that didn't work. The Save Your Movie Wizard hung at the Saving Your Movie stage. It didn't matter what type of file I saved it as. It alyways came up with estimated time remaining and showing zero progress.

I talked about how I can save a movie fine if I save small movie files. I have decided to split my movie up into parts and save each part as its own wmv file and then use a third party program to merge all the saved wmv files into one big movie. I hope that nothing happens this time when I'm saving each part but its pretty frustrating to have to go through this procedure. I will update everyone on my progress later on. Wish me luck.

Here is an update. I ended up saving my movie into 6 different parts then I condensed it even further into 3 parts. All 3 parts are wmv files and they all play perfectly. For anyone who has a similar issue with Windows Movie Maker try saving your big movie file into smaller parts. My issue has finally been resolved. Thanks for reading everyone.
