I am having lots of 'freeze up' problems with Real Player so decided to uninstall /reinstall it but every time I start the uninstall (from control panel/uninstall programs) the process just freezes up and task manager shows 'Real Player uninstall not responding'.
Where do I go from here?
It's the free version so there's no support available from Real!!
Whilst I'm not totally dumb, I'm not a proper computer geek so need some fairly simple instructions to follow.

I'm using Vista on a 1 year old HP Pavilion Laptop.

Hi Ian. Since Real Player won't uninstall from add/remove programs the proper way download and run the portable version of revo uninstaller from here, http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html. When the program opens highlight real player and select uninstall. Let Revo run and remove real player.

If that doesn't work then we will have to remove real player manually. Open My Computer. Navigate to the following directories and remove real player and the folder real if they are found.

    C:/Program Files
    C:/Program Files/Common Files.
    C:/Documents and Settings/User Name/Application data
    C:/Documents and Settings/User Name/Local Settings
    C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Application data
    C:/Documents and Settings/All Users/Local Settings

If there are other user accounts on this computer go into those accounts as well and repeat the steps above. Delete Real Player from the desktop, quicklaunch and start menu.

Lastly, Click Start< Search. Search for Real Player and remove any other files and folders that are found. Finally, empty your recycle bin and reboot the computer.

    Thanks Evan Omo

    Evan

    You are my Hero!

Did what you suggested and I think I'm clear...Yippee!

I used Real Player for the last 5 years or so because it seemed a reliable way to handle my music library as well as video clips etc. until it started freezing up. What can I sensibly replace it with? Are you able to suggest anything?

    Thanks again

    Ian

Thanks for the complement Ian. :) As far as media players go I have been using Windows Media Player and it does its job fine. If you don't use Windows Media Player and you don't want to use it then I would recommend Quicktime Player instead, http://www.filehippo.com/download_quicktime_player/. ;)
