Resolved Can't install quick time or iTunes

    When I try to install iTunes and Quick Time, it stops at the quick time installation and tells me I have a newer version of quick time already installed, which I really don't. I've uninstalled everything associated with QT and removed everything I could find in the registry and I still get the same results. I'm thinking I'm missing something in the registry that needs to be removed. Any thoughts?

    Hi Luncho. Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

    So quicktime doesn't install because it thinks that you already have a newer version of it installed?

    1. Have you downloaded the latest version from here, http://filehippo.com/download_quicktime_player/?
    2. If you are using the latest version of it and its still not installing then click Start< Search. Search your harddrive for the terms Apple and Quicktime.
    3. If nothing shows up, open up My Computer, then open the C drive.
    4. Browse to the following directory C:/Program Files.
    5. Right-click on the QuickTime folder and click Delete from the shortcut menu.
    6. Now Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\.
    7. Remove the files QuickTime.qts and QuicktimeVR.qtx.
    8. Empty your recycle bin.
    9. Restart your computer.
    10. Shut down all backround programs that are running and then try installing quicktime player again.

    Thanks, But that did not work either. I have nothing associated with apple or quicktime left on my computer and it still says I have a newer version of quicktime and can't install which is impossible because I'm trying to load the newest version. To answer your question before, I was using ver 7.1 and tried to update to 7.5.5 and got the "you already have a newer version installed ". I even tried earlier versions and get the same error or one that says the load is corrupt. I can't remember the code but I think it was 8203 or 8023 for the corrupt error.

    Ok since you get that error message saying that there is already a newer version of it is installed means that that there are still remnants of it left on your system. Try searching your registry again for the terms apple and quicktime. The last thing that I can offer is to download and run the windows installer cleanup utility. http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html. When you run it select quicktime and the other apple components from the list and select remove.

    Didn't work either. I'm afraid I'm gonna hose up my registry one of these times. Is there a utility that will let you toggle the installation step by step so you can see where it is looking? It's probably some silly thing.

    There is no utility that I am aware of that will show you exactly where the setup file is installing the files to. I understand how frustrated you must be with quicktime not installing. The cause is probably something silly. There is most likely some little file somewhere in windows thats blocking the installation. I am afraid that I don't know of any other solution for you to try but I will see what I can find and let you know if I find anything.

    In the meantime, I am sure other members will offer their advice and expertise on this subject. Have you tried contacting apple for help?

    Hey Evan,

    Just to let you know, I ended up buying a new hard drive and rebuilding it from scratch...should have done it months ago. It solved a number of problems. Oh and I was able to install quick time.
