Today has been a long one on my computer. After having the pants scared off of me by all the negative stuff about RealPlayer I decided to uninstall it & replace it with the BBC version. This started to crash Firefox 3 on exit just as the older version did before I updated. I have now removed RealPlayer from my computer. I think there is some residual stuff left in it from my original RealPain ... er sorry player :( , but I can't find it, let alone remove it. It is probably still spying on me  ...

I have Vista Home Premium & my laptop was only purchased in April this year. The only reason I downloaded RP in the first place was to play some 3gp files of my recently deceased father. I can do this in QuickTime now. I can watch everything else I used to watch on Windows Media Player & still listen to the playback facility on BBC radio without RealPlayer (Vs11 or the BBC).

What I don't understand is why I can't listen to RTE (Irish Radio) on my Windows Media Player that came with my computer! You have a choice, RealPlayer or WMP. When I click on WMP it just informs me I don't have it. I have put it back on default.

To listen to this audio clip you must have Windows Media Player installed on your computer.

You can download it by following the link: Windows Media Player

    I don't get it

I have completely removed (virtually) RP from my system

    Have a look yourself---

    http://www.rte.ie/radio/

    I don't get it

I just exited Firefox & it crashed again, could anyone explain why this is happening now I have removed RealPlayer?

When I go there and select one of the live radio links from the right column I get a window that says I must have RP in the left column, but a choice in the right cloumn (see attached screenshot) which does launch MP.

Well, it seems to automatically choose RealPlayer when I go there. It won't run on my computer. I don't know why. I have uninstalled RealPlayer as well as I can.

    Hi Dave

    Here you go:

In Vista turn off UAC. Turn back on after cleanup.

Likely you have searched the HD but....

Set search to search hidden system read only and subfolders.

Then search for Real*.* and delete all references to realplayer and realnetworks.

    Then download "
    Autoruns http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx

    and RegSeeker http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm

First run Autoruns and scan carefully thu and delete all references to Realplayer and realnetworks.

Then use Regseeker "Find in registry" for Realplayer and RealNetworks and remove all those also.

Then finally do a Registry clean with Regseeker.

    Reboot.

    Mike

I have found a folder called 'Real' on my drive in 'common files' I have deleted the plug ins I think on it. Would this be RealPlayer? Or have I deleted something important & will need to find it in my recycle bin? It is between 2 folders called microsoft shared & scanner. The 2 subfolders which are left are called codecs & update_OB. Are these from RealPlayer?

I checked them further & they were all created on the 5th of April, surprise surprise, the very day I downloaded realplayer for the first time. They were all modified on Sunday as well. The day I uninstalled RP 11 & installed then uninstalled BBC realplayer. Strangely Firefox hasn't crashed since ... I wonder why?

I treied the RTE selection on a computer with Vista HP that had never had RealPLayer installed & I couldn't get it to work either (I even tried using both browsers on it; Safari 3 & IE 7).

    ?
