Office 2003 & Windows Installer issue

    Hi, just yesterday I attempted to use excel and Windows Installer popped up. Now all of office 2003 programs, same problem. It says "preparing to install" Them it goes away in a few minutes. Error message is "Problem with shortcut" "This patch package cannot be opened." Also there is Windows Installer pop up when computer boots up.

    I think you may have had an Office App open when an update, perhaps SP3, was installed.

    You may need to uninstall and reinstall Office, but if you do, but sure to run the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility after uninstall and before reinstall.
