ZoneAlarm Pro usefully combines firewall and antispyware. I also have antispyware within System Mechanic 7, and have Spybot S&D installed. Not that I'm paranoid, you understand.

    For antivirus, I'm happy with stand-alone F-Prot (Win) 6.

However, I've grown dissatisfied with ZoneAlarm Pro - especially since version 7, which seems to be causing all sorts of new hiccups on my system (not to speak of their recent famous '127.0.0.1 is a spysite' false positive!! - which should go down in the annals of something or other...). So... can anyone recommend me a decent pay-for software firewall (excluding Norton/Symantec of course)...?

    Hello David,

Two that I would recommend a look at:

Commodo which is free and has about the same resource usage as ZAP does http://forums.comodo.com/ Comomdo also just bought BOClean and will make it available free.

Sunbelt's Kerio paid, uses less resources than ZAP and has about the same non-firewall options: HIPS - add blocking, etc. http://www.sunbelt-software.com/products.cfm

    Regard - Charles
