    Hi,
Recently I have had to perform a System Restore on my computer...

After I did, I realized that alot of the software I had installed was now missing from the Add or Remove list, yet they were still listed in my start /programs list...but not accessible.

One of the missing programs was my Norton Anti Virus 2004 that I had renewed online in April of 2005...

So I tried to reinstall the Norton Anti Virus 2004 from the disk and thinking I could go to the site and reinstall the definitions etc...

When I try to install the AV I continually get an window popping up that says there was an internal error2753.SAVscan.exe.3333244E_F73A_407A_B74A_569A9EO9D5B3............

I click on OK and it asks me if I want to retry or cancel...I have tried to retry several times with no better luck..

So I called Symantec and they told me they donot offer support for Norton Anti Virus 2004..anymore and I would have to upgrade to the newer 2006n version and they would help me....
Regardless of the fact that I paid for the renewal in April 2005...they simply weren't going to help me...Now THAT'S SERVICE.....Wow!!!!
    Never again........

So here I am looking for a solution so I can get my NAV back working for me till I can afford another brand that actually supports there customers...
    Can anyone help????

Try this link to see if it helps. You probably need to get 2004 uninstalled and then reinstall it. The above link will give you Norton's removal tool for making sure everything is removed. Once it's uninstalled, reboot and try installing again. I don't want to sound like I'm defending Norton's policy, but your program is two years old and they can't offer free support forever. I recently upgraded to NAV 2006. You can find it for no cost after rebates if you watch the sales.

Let me know if that helps.

    Mike

    Difficulty installin Norton Antivirus

Panic not and spend not a penny. Get instead either of the following free Antivirus programs AVG7 from www.grisoft.com OR if you run an XP 64 bit system Avast is your tool from www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.html
Both of these I recommend as they do the job properly, protect your system, update automatically and unlike Norton are much less intrusive and clunky.

    Hi Minnesota Mike,
I get your point about support and older version systems....but I think you may have not gotten mine...

I bought 2004 in 2004....When it came time to renew in April of 2005...I was sent an Email by Symantec that said I could renew online and save time and hassle of going to the store to get a new disc.....
Well.....If they are going to offer a renewal online,,,,then their records should, and do, indicate that I have renewed online till April 2006.....This would obligate any company to back up their product for the term of the contract....
If they are going to deny support for a CORE system, then they should NOT offer a renewal of service for that particular system....They should simply inform the person trying to renew that their system is not supportable.
When they know that, should something end up NOT working correctly, and they have no intentions of servicing that client then that it is fraud to sell the renewal without a disclaimer that is in plain language directed at that particular client....BEFORE it is purchased.
W'ere not talking third party software here ,,,,,this is Manufacture Point of sale....and that is at the least very disingenuous.....legally intent to defraud

Common Sense says... I bought a product, then paid, at their prompt, for a continuance of service...and was informed first sign of trouble, after the purchase.... "Oh by the way ...what you just bought''''''should anything go wrong we won't help you figure out how to fix it.."

Nobody's lookin' for a freebie here....
I simply asked them what the error message meant and how do I fix it to get back to normal......
Their reply was; "well since you are running Norton AV 2004 we no longer support that system so unless you buy 2006 version your stuck.....

Please bear in mind this is still 2005.....
One year down the line...they don't have any support for a system that they themselves renewed service on....????
Come on....Dont offer me a renewal of service if you know you are not going to give me some help should I have a problem with it during the service year....

So needless to say I dumped and purged the program and will die before I use any Symantec products.........end of story......I don't reward bad ethics.....

    blakston6286,

The 'renewal' you paid Symantec for was a subscription for another year of being able to update your virus definitions. It was not an update for the base antivirus program. You are not alone, I've started seeing several other people with the same complaint. I had used Norton A/V for years and it is still a good program, but Symantec (IMO) has gotten out of control. I started using NOD32 ( http://www.nod32.com/home/home.htm ) and I'm thoroughly satisfied with its performance. I suggest you do a little research and find yourself a different antivirus program.
Symantec has recently bought Sygate Personal Firewall (the one I've used for the past couple years) and are going to make it go away. They are just going to discontinue it (they got me again). They bought PowerQuest last year (DriveImage and PartitionMagic)... whose next?

    AMEN Mr B.
Someday the circumstances will force some ethics of accountability in this industry...until then they are just having a field day at everyone elses expense................

Quite honestly I feel it is the ISP's responsibility to protect their customers.........They have been derilict in their duties to Serve.....

If they want to rake in the $$$$$ they should be able to guarantee their clients wont get blindsided........and that there are some built in safety features for any incoming data ....
Gee!!!! like maybe a firewall that verifies valid traceable originators and content....It always amazed me that computers are setup to accept adware and spyware and data threats without in depth probing to verify the path is no threat and contains no subliminal data....How hard can it be to recognize deviations from the acccepted norm....?????

Thank you very much for the links....I am always looking for more comprehensive programs that have a good track record....:)

The best of New Years to you and yours:D

As I state in a thread of mine from several weeks ago, (ticked off at Norton) I also got ripped off by them. My virus definition subscription for my NAV 2003 was due to expire in December 2005, but they stopped supporting NAV 2003 and as of early November 2005, I could no longer get definitions. I paid for 12 months of definitions and only got 11 months. Their reply to my inquiries was to buy NAV 2006. I'll never buy another Norton product again. I understand them updating their products and needing to sell those products, but they still need to honor the subscriptions that they have already collected money for. What they should do is stop updating the old program and stop collecting money for subscription renewals, but still provide definitions until the subscriptions they have expire.
I now use the free AVG7 and am happy with it. Norton will never see my money again.

    Hi Bucksone,
    Yep,
My point exactly.....Looks like there is at least 2 of us off that train.....
I was using the AVG a few years ago and had a hard drive crash from some stuff that came in thru the back door and start rewritting all my files with incredibly long names so my computer could no longer access them.....
Hopefully they have improved since then....I am looking for a utility that will catch Trojan Horses and Worms as well as viruses...searching at the moment......But like you Norton will NEVER be a consideration.....till I die...:p :p :p :p :p ::p :p :D
