Micemen [game - problem to exit]

My wife recently downloaded an old DOS-based shareware game called Micemen. To get out of the game, you click on Return to DOS. The computer then goes to a black screen. So far, the only way we have had to get beyond this is to turn the whole works off at the power strip. I seem to remember way back when we had this game about two computers ago, you would exit to DOS and get a c: prompt. You would type something like win and hit enter and go back to Windows. So, my question is, am I doing any harm to my computer, and how do I get back to Windows when playing this game?

When it exits to the black screen try using the escape key. If no joy there, try alt+ F4. That's the keyboard combo to close the current active window and may do the job.

I had a look at the game. Alt + F4 will get you out of it.

I've tried both Esc and Alt F4 and it did nothing.

heh, I've owned Micemen for years (and I've been stuck on it for years also), always been able to back out of it though.
If ALT+F4 or ESC definitely does not work... Find out the specs of your wifes PC. IE what operating system, processor, etc. If it's recent enough, ever considered DOS emulation software? Quite useful if you have trouble quitting, as you can set it to open in a window so it's easy to close.

However, unfortunately, much DOS emulation software requires fairly high processor power etc.

Well, I don't know what to say about this. Alt+F4 works for me. I have no idea why it will on one computer and not another. I haven't got rid of the game yet and just tried it again and the key combo pops me right back to the desktop. I have no idea why it doesn't work for you. It should. It's just a key combo to close whatever window is currently active. It's a windows key combo and should work on any windows based computer.

Maybe you're trying it to soon or something like that. On mine it won't work until the game is fully closed and at the black screen. Press alt and then while continuing to hold the alt key, press F4 and I'm back at the desktop just like any other window.

Another thing you can try is ctrl+alt+delete. I got to thinking that maybe if you have taskmanager set to be always on top that would come up on top of the window and you could kill it using that. I tried it and it just closed the DOS window without having to use taskmanager. Give it a try and see if it works for you. This is on XP. I have no idea if it will do the same with win9X. Alt+F4 should work on both though.
