French accent marks dont appear in Word 2002

I downloaded a text written in French and placed it into Word 2002. The original text had French accent marks, but in my Word document the accent marks do not appear. Is there a setting in Windows XP that allows these accent marks to be shown, or is this a setting for Word? Thanks.

 

How did you import the text? I tried it using the Clipboard copy/paste and all the diacritical marks were preserved in Word, Wordpad, and Notepad.

 

à é and similar should stay as they were originally since they are different characters than the ones without the accent marks just as ã ä å ç ñ and the other accented characters.

I'm with surferdude2 here - how did you copy them?

 

French accents

I mistakenly said I downloaded a text in French. I actually scanned the French text on a friend's scanner, created a Word text of it, and put that file on my computer (Windows XP, Word 2002). When I open the text file on my computer, there are no French accents on it. There must be a setting on my Windows XP and/or my Word that will allow me to see those accents. Sorry for the confusing description.

 

It could also be that we need to throw rocks at the OCR software that created the text from the image. those programs are notorious for errors.
