My System
Try ....

Format > Cells > Font > Superscript. Works in Office 2003, don't have Office XP

Hold down the ALT key and from the numberpad, type 0178 then release the ALT key.

Alt-0178 =
Alt-0179 =
Alt=0190 =
start~run~charmap gives you the whole list. They work pretty much anywhere in Windows.

My System
In an Excel Cell type 'a' - with the cursor flashing to the right of the 'a' ....
Format > Cells > Font > check Superscript
then type '2' which will appear as superscript
Format > Cells > Font > uncheck Superscript

Why they can't have a button for subscript and superscript as in Word (via customization) is beyond me.

As no one else mentioned it. If you want squared in an equation you can use ^ as in:

=2^2

Which will give 4 in the cell.

=2^3

will give 8

...Tried that in Word works perfectly, however in Excel it reverts back to the same size font as the a. If I cut and paste from Word into Excel, it reverts it back too??

The odd thing is it changes, then when you go back to format, cells, font and remove the tick it all changes back to the normal size. Same goes for when you select another cell??

Never seen a thread here before with 75 % + UK posts/replies !
Pleased pondlife got some good tips. Newt mentions the Windows Charmap
usage. Sometimes you have to juggle around in the different Fonts you have,
as the character map per Font is different.
Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the ALT[Number] symbols ?
regards

Its ok I've sorted it now, you have to make sure there is a space between the a and the 2 then it will alow you to 'mix fonts' in the same cell.

Thanks all for your help

Merlin - sorry but the only way I know of to get such a list would be to do one.

Pondlife - isn't this what you were wanting?

Hi Newt, I am getting on in years. I do not think I will finish
(9!/4!) combinations (15'120) within what's left to me

Anyway, Edith Starr does as good a job with this topic as anyone :

---> here

regards
