I know this is a bit "off-the-wall ", but I figure this is a computer issue and this might be the best group to ask.

I've been compiling CDs with a mix of different artists and styles from other CDs to give me a variety of music to listen to in the car. Some of the tracks have been re-formatted from cassettes and vinyl discs, also.

I recently took one of those disks to an exercise class and tried to play it on their CD player. It rejected the disk. When I played the disk on my car CD player, I noticed it has a "Track #0" - a very short track with nothing on it. My car's player skipped over to track #1 without a problem. I think the "track #0" was the issue with the class player.

Does anyone know if music CDs recorded on a computer automatically get this "track #0 "? Since it was a write once disk, I can't go back and erase the track.

I have the Ion Audio Duo Deck and converted cassettes and vinyl albums to disks and none of created CDs have a track #0.

Unfortunately, not all CD players can play all CDs created with PC burners. You have to experiment with different brands and types of CDs, as well as various PC burners sometimes, until you find a combination that will work in the player you are trying to use.

I have no idea if this is related to track 0 or not, but if I couldn't play a CD that plays well in a car cd player, in a portable cd player elsewhere, I'd wonder about the file format. Did you burn MP3 (which many car cd players can handle) files? Perhaps the portable player in the class could only play actual "music" cd files, which are not MP3.

The Ion Audio Duo Deck plugs into the PC and you run a cassette or LP and then you can convert the songs to different formats. Did you finalize the disk. Some players will not play CD's/DVD's unless they are is finalized.

lj50, Would you like to make a correction in your last sentence? My player likes to play CD's/DVD's. :D Neil.

Agree with Spyware Dr. and lj50.
You have to experiment including the Media (CD) itself, going back some years when I was doing the same thing I had many frustrations with CD media
CD-R + or CD-R-. Some players will not accept both plus and minus.
Then there is the problem with the format MP3 or WAV, WMA, FLAC and many others.
AS has been mentioned not all cd players can play MP3 if that is what you have been recording in, most car stereo units will play MP3 and WMA, whereas stand alone cd players of the older type will not.

To see what works bes, experiment and use the same program.
I only use "dBpoweramp" in my opinion by far the best for ripping or converting music.

Thanks for the information, folks. I guess I need to do some more research into what format my elderly computer records onto CD. Our players, both home and in the car, are both stone-age vintage. Our home player dates back to the mid-1970's, the car stereo to 2003. I don't know what vintage the player at my exercise class is - I suspect it's fairly new. They originally had a multi-disc player with a 300 disc cassette! The current one can handle five disks and is maybe a year old.

Maybe we should put this on the back burner until I've done some more research. I sure appreciate the inputs.

It might be a while. I'm thinking of copying one of the disks with a "Zero" track on to a read/write disk and deleting the zero track, then see what happens on the class CD player.

Class is closed over the holiday - look for an update mid-Jan.

I haven't had a chance to try deleting the "track zero" yet. It might be a couple more weeks before I get a chance to try it.

For the time being, I'll mark the thread resolved and come back to it when I have more info.
