How can I get rid of this obsolete tool? It isn't listed in Add/Remove Programs.
The file name is blastcln.exe. If I delete it, even with Command Prompt, it reappears in 10 seconds.

Download the FREE version of Revo Uninstaller and see if it shows up in there. Use the Advanced option when you do it.

Depending on how blastcln.exe was installed, a backup can be found in either
    C:\WINDOWS\ServicePackFiles\i386 or in
    C:\WINDOWS\System32\dllcache and in
    C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch

Delete all backup copies then delete the version in C:\Windows\System32.

The only backup folder I could find was dllcache. I deleted there and in System32, but it reappeared in both places.

Are you certain it doesn't appear in add-remove programs? You must checkmark "show updates" because that tool is a windows update install. Otherwise, it doesn't hurt to have it installed.

I am sure it is not listed; It must have snuck in with SP3. I only know it is there because Secunia PSI keeps telling me it is out of date. Not serious, just annoying.

I did a search for the file, found it in 4 places, and deleted them all. Windows was upset that I deleted them, but I persisted. I can always do a system restore if there is a problem. Thank Tony for your help.
