Trying to run an "ancient" program on a new computer

Is it possible to run a program that was written in the Windows 3.1 days on a present day computer either under Windows 7 or Vista?
This is Stephen Hawking's A Brief History Of Time.
Minimum system requirements are a 386SX processor with 8 megs of ram.
Thanks.

I finally got around to trying it,

but I think it'll be an insurmountable problem on this computer if for no other reason than this is Windows 7 64 bit.
If you think I'm wrong about this, please let me know.
I really didn't try all that hard.
PS could you tell me how to get into the compatibility mode?
Thanks.
