Connection Randomly Stopped Working -- Unable to Contact DHCP Server
Hello all,
This is the first time I've ever had to post on a forum instead of gleaning the answers from other existing threads. Hopefully this thread will become one that others can glean answers from.
THE ISSUE: I have a router connecting two Windows XP computers. The one I am posting from has working internet, and until recently, so did my other one. For no discernable reason, one day the other computer just stopped having internet access. The ethernet cable is not the issue -- other computers connect fine from it. I believe something in Windows or in hardware has gotten messed up.
When I enter "ipconfig" it shows me a 169.x.x.x address -- a private network address. "ipconfig /release" just gives me the same address. "ipconfig /renew" hangs and eventually errors saying "Unable to contact your DHCP server." The DHCP Client and DNS Client services are running. I reset my TCP/IP with "netsh int ip reset c:\log.txt" and that did not help. In a thread where someone with a similar issue got help, one of those two things fixed their problem, but sadly not mine.
Other than my ipconfig /all log (posted below), I am not sure what information would be useful for you. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
